Laureline, on February 23, 2017 at 11:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

So Im not good with fashion, and i would like to know what to look for when i go dress shopping. I am apperantly considered pear shaped and im a size 14 right now, Im hoping to reach my previous size of 10 before i get married but im not worried bout it. What kind of dress style would fit my body type?

I have a big butt/thighs and a smaller top. I ended up going with an empire waist ball gown. I still have some pounds to lose, but it has the princess feel to it that I wanted and will hide the butt! lol

I think the shape of the dress has less to do with the fact that you are "pear" and more on what you want to emphasize. Do you want something tight that shows off your figure? or do you want something loose and flowy that would hide anything you may not be comfortable with?

Hi there, pear here! I had a fit and flare dress and I loved it, I thought it was quite flattering. I actually feel like most shapes look nice on pears, including mermaids. I would just stay away from sheath dresses. I think only very thin women look good in sheath dresses.

I am kinda pear shaped. I have large hips and butt with a smaller waist and average bust. I got a fit and flare and am very self conscious about how my hips look in it. I've heard everyone else say it's very flattering but I am very self conscious about my hips. Just make sure you're super comfortable and feel beautiful in what you choose Smiley smile

Try on every style of dress. Seriously. Try everything - ball gown, A-line, mermaid, trumpet, ect.

"Traditional" fashion advice tells me that because my hips are my widest point, I should mainly look at ballgowns and A-lines. I looked ridiculous in both - like I was being swallowed by a cupcake.

I ended up with a trumpet-style dress and I love it. Don't pigeonhole yourself!

I think fit and flare would be a good option.

I did a fit and flare type as well. I think it depends on the look. My aunt loved the ball gown look on me as well. And that helped to take away from my hips. But I felt better in something more fitted. Once you try on the different styles you'll know! I had no idea what would work for my shape going into it.

    Good luck!!

A-line or ballgowns are the most flattering styles on pear shapes.

I'm very pear shaped and felt like all styles were pretty flattering. I went with a ballgown because that's what I pictured myself in, but everything from that too mermaid was pretty flattering. All the dresses for the most part needed some cups to fill out the top, so it made no difference there. I personally feel like a wedding dress should emphasize a small waist and felt that a ball gown did that best as well.

Here is what I selected, I'm also a size 14 and pear shaped. This is A-line and the added lace at the top helps to draw eyes up and balance my top and bottom (or so I'm told). Keep in mind when this pic was taken the dress was not altered and I had an awkward face bc my mom snapped like 1,000 pics lol

OP, you have a great figure, flaunt it! I am a 16 and I ordered a fit and flare, love it! Wedding dresses have a lot of structure built in. Try on all styles, you really never know what you'll end up loving.
