What does everyone think is fair to spend on a Dj/mc for your reception?

Julie, on September 24, 2020 at 1:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 28

I have a few quotes and want to see what is pretty standard. (We love a good party vibe!)

I really think it depends on the area you live in. In some places, less than $1000 would be normal. Other places, $2000+ would be normal.

I’m in NYC so it’s bound to be more expensive than less populated parts of the country. I’m paying 2k for the DJ and 1k for a photo-booth package upgrade ....so about 3k total.

You could always look into whether it would be cheaper to hire a less expensive DJ from a different area. Add up the cost of that DJ plus their travel costs, and check if it's cheaper than the DJs in your area.

That seems pretty standard for a major cityZ you can try the thumbtack app to see if you can find A wider price range of vendors.

I think if you have a few quotes and you average them out then that would be the standard them out in your area

In So Cal, daughter paid $1400 for 7 hours, not including set-up and take-down, and he included mics for the ceremony, etc. That price was really good compared with other quotes and she loved the DJ.

Yes, we got a great deal! We live in a bigger city where DJ’s are typically more expensive, however we got married in a small mountain town. My venue told me about a local DJ they had worked with many times before and he was super reasonable at $800. We went with him and he was great.
Ask your venue if they have any suggestions!

I agree about seeing if your venue has any recommendations. One of the many things daughter loved about her DJ was that he had worked at her venue a LOT, so he knew exactly what to expect and had a great relationship with the venue event director. It was so nice that they were both very confident about how to make everything work perfectly. Your DJ can have a big impact on helping ensure you stay on your timeline, which has a huge effect on how smoothly everything runs the day of. Finding someone who can work well with the venue and other vendors is such a blessing!

$1400, Cleveland area, also for about 7 hours + setup/take-down.
