What does everyone think about going home the night of their wedding?

Andrea, on January 19, 2015 at 10:36 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 41

I am having a daytime wedding that will end at 5 pm. I booked a room at the hotel next door since I was kind of weirded out by going home the night of our wedding. However, now I am having second thoughts about just going home to save money that could be put toward the honeymoon or elsewhere, especially since this hotel is over $200 per night, and we are paying for the night before as well (along with the expense of lodging the wedding party). Is there some kind of taboo against a couple that goes home after their wedding or something, since I have never heard of that being done? What does everyone out there think?

You could go home, just make it special! Have champagne, music etc! Honestly most people just sleep on their wedding night anyways... So why not in your own bed!

I dont think there is any issue with it, i think most people dont get married right next to their house, so its just a convinence thing not having to go too far. For me the wedding is an hour and a half away from my house, and I would hate driving back directly after the reception.

I would like to see the answer to this as well. I'm going back and forth with getting an hotel for the night since I will be going on my honeymoon 5 days after my wedding. We could use the money for the hotel as spending money for our honeymoon.

We SHOULD, in all reality, go home after. We have to up EARLY the day after the wedding to catch a flight to Puerto Rico, but the after party in the Best Man's suite may be the only time we have to catch up for some one on one with some of our Out of Towners

    Thanks everyone!

@Julia, yes that's what I'm thinking! This hotel is minimum $230 a night..I figured that could be money for an additional excursion on our honeymoon that we'd enjoy more. Especially since our venue is like, 20-30 minutes from where we live, so to me, staying at the hotel next door is kind of silly, but I also figured I get married once in my life (that's what I plan at least!)

I see no problem with it. I prefer a honeymoon suite, but do what suits you.

We just went home. Wedding, after party, then home. With all my bridesmaids, since they were staying with us for the wedding weekend! Its no big deal unless its not what you want. I only see my friends once or twice a year, so I was not wanting them to stay in a hotel

Our venue is about 30 minutes from our house, but I wanted our wedding night/weekend to be a little more special. I didn't want to go home to my messy house, I want to relax. We aren't planning on taking a honeymoon though (at least not any time soon), so we just got a nice room on the Strip (LV).

Yes, plus FH brought up the fact that it'll be a hassle to bring all our stuff right after our wedding back home, so I figured we will see since I have until May to confirm

We went back to our apartment after the wedding. We were originally going back to the house my girls and I got ready at, but that got sabotaged, as other people went back there instead.

After all was said and done - I am so glad we went home! It was great to not get up early and have to truck everything home before taking off for mini honeymoon.

We are going home. We are leaving the next morning for our honeymoon and we have a 3.5 hour drive to the port in Miami. We were going to head to Miami after the wedding and stay in a hotel there but decided that neither one of us wants to drive that far after our wedding. So home it is.

OK so going home is more common than I thought lol. I think I'll keep the reservation for now, and then decide later after most of the wedding is paid for whether or not to drop the reservation for the night of or not.

He booked us a really nice hotel room for the night of our mini wedding on 1/3. It was so relaxing to just spend time together away from "life". My father was very ill at the time, and life was just chaotic for us. Our night alone in a huge room with a king size bed, and jacuzzi tub was very relaxing. I think he is planning on doing it for the March wedding also. Maybe a different place closer to the reception.

We're away from our home otherwise I think we would. I think it's special in its own right. The home you live your lives in you're spending the first night married in, maybe it's me but it feels sort of romantic! Not to mention it's your bed!!

We will be going home! I plan to hire a housekeeping service to super clean and stock the fridge with champagne and recovery snacks. Wedding is Friday and we plan to spend time with everyone who comes to town the whole weekend.

I wish we could do this! But we are unfortunately having the wedding an hour from home. It would eliminate the need to get up/ready, pack up and drive home the next day. We could just stay in bed and not worry about a thing if we were at home ... Man now I'm really sad haha

@ AndixLyn, I like your idea! I was thinking of doing something similar while I'm gone that way everything is clean and tidy for when we do return home Smiley smile

Opinion from a previously married person... if you are having the full blown wedding, with reception afterward, go home. Cuz there will be no ...well u know.. happening. Lol you will both be exgausted (sp?) You will not want champagne...you may want a burger and fries tho, lol! Spend the weekend somewhere for 100 bucks a nite, leaving the next day when you are rested. Your gonna pay $200 bucks for a bed you are both going to just pass out into...AND have to check out of by 11am. Not fun! Been there, done that! Just sayin......:-)
