What do you think? Can you add straps of some kind to this dress?

Hannah, on January 29, 2016 at 3:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I LOVE my dress, I just got that feeling when I tried it on, and I get excited when I think about wearing it.

However, I am big chested and feel a little naked up top. I had always wanted straps of some kind, but when I fell in love with the dress I thought I could get over it. But now I am worried that I will look too bare, or constantly be tugging up my dress. The veil does help me feel more covered, but I won't be wearing that for the entire reception (it's cathedral length and both me and fh are accident prone).

What are your thoughts on adding straps to this dress, and do you have any suggestions or images that may be helpful?

You should be able to get straps added. I'm in the same boat with strapless gowns, they just don't stay up and I don't want pictures of me hiking up my dress

I had to have straps for my Catholic ceremony so I had them make snap on straps out of extra material from the bottom of my dress. Whatever you decide, make sure the straps are thicker. Spaghetti straps stretch with the weight of the wedding dress and they will hurt your shoulders.

If your dress has been altered correctly, you shouldn't HAVE to tug it up. Whether you do it unconsciously is another thing.

It hasn't been altered yet (hence the ridiculous amount of fabric at the bottom). They've all told me that I shouldn't fall down or feel like it will... but I know I am a little fidgety haha. I would love to see pictures of straps people have added to dresses!

I am VERY top heavy, and what Nicole said is true. If the dress is altered correctly, meaning the bodice around the ribcage is very snug, - almost restricting breathing snug, - the dress should stay put. Lots of women don't realize that the support comes from the ribcage area (and in a bra, the band,) and have the bust tightened and the ribcage loosened for comfort, then they have a falling dress.

Eta: snap in straps won't be useful for any actual support, btw. They're solely for looks. To return to the bra comparison, if a bra's straps fall off or dig in, it's a band size problem, not because your boobs are too heavy. It means you're wearing the wrong size bra.

Beautiful dress! With that neckline and back you have a ton of options for adding straps, or even little cap sleeves. The designer of your gown may offer several options, adding straps is a pretty common request.

The pics on the right are not me, but this is my dress and the other bride added straps. They are prob. Really hard to see in this picture that is about to be resized, but oh well. I will also be adding similar straps. I ordered extra tulle in the same color to do so Smiley smile
