We got engaged in September and recently told our families. Now we are getting more involved and serious about planning the wedding. What was the 1st thing everyone tryed to figure out 1st when it came to plan? We are writing our possible guess list and trying to find out how many people to have come to the wedding and reception. But others are suggesting we start with other things such as location and colors. What is your opinion on what should be figured out 1st when it comes to planning?

Our first thing was budget, then rough guest list because we needed to know how many before looking at potential venues. I already knew what month I wanted to get married and had a general location in mind, so that helped narrow things down as we began researching. Happy planning!

What kind of wedding we wanted aka the budget, the date and the guest list. Nothing else could really happen without those figured out.

I agree i think to find your budget and venues it depends on how much you need to buy or how much space you really need to accommodate the guests you are wanting.

Our wedding might be sooner then 2022 back in September thats what we said as the latest possibility for us but we are talking now about 1-2 years from now. We are thinking guest list 1st because our culture is very open about parties for example you invite 1 person and they tell there family now we have 10 people coming from that family. So guests is huge for us to figure out.

Like everyone says... budget!! but, the first thing I had in mind was the food and how many people to invite. I wanted to make the food myself since its gonna be for 25 people i just thought why not make it more intimate and cook myself! yes, it might seem crazy but i have the timeline and everything set up so that i can DYI everything lol. Also i should mention my ceremony is going to be with only me and my FH in a courthouse. So only reception is gonna be for guests!

We set our date first.... After the date was set then we decided on a budget. We figured if we set the date first it would give us an idea of how much time we would realistically have to save money.... Then we definitely did the venues ( that is the biggest thing that altered our budget not realizing how much things really would cost.) But def do your budget so you know how much you want to spend and then lock in your vendors --> colors and everything can come later cause if you are like some of us things will change once you really get into planning. I changed my color twice (lol) congrats and let the fun truly begin

Definitely knocked out venue, colors and wedding party first! I felt that was a great starting place

We did the guest list first. I just found it easier to find a place if we knew about how many people we intended to have. Then when we found a place, we picked colors and dresses/tuxes, and everything else came much easier.

The first thing we decided was location. Not building or anything just state and town.

I immediately had ideas but first decisions were a possible date and touring venues. Also went to a bridal show which helped a ton!

Start with the budget, I wish I would have done this first. Figure out when you want to have it. Research venues that you can afford. After looking at a bunch of venues, my dream venue was actually in our budget. The first thing I got was my dress but I was only in town for a few days.

Budget should be first; then I would figure out a head count because that is going to help you find your venue.

We booked our venue. The moment we got engaged I knew where we'd be married so booking the venue was important so I knew I wouldn't have to stress about that. Fortunately for us we are getting married at a lions club camp which is like a volunteer group and my aunt is a part of the club so we get the venue for free for three days which is amazing for our budget.

We got engaged this Valentine's day. Our wedding is next June.
    We secured our Venue first.
It was shocking that they were almost already booked for next year.

We also have our DJ, our officiant, our photographer, our wedding cake, bridesmaids dresses and shoes and we have paid the deposit on our Honeymoon.

It felt real after we booked the venue. I have yet to go look at wedding dresses...hope to do that after our engagement pictures in May.

Every Bride is different, and there is no right or wrong way.
I would suggest venue as top priority, then the rest will fall into placeSmiley smile

    Happy Planning!

Since me and my fiance are from two separate states, I am from Missouri and he is from Texas, we had to decide where the wedding would be. This was very hard because both of us had very important family members (such as my 97 year old grandmother) that are too old to travel or not of good health. We decided to go with Texas and the reason being is that we are moving there after we finish school and I think it would be easier to have a wedding where I live so I don't have to transport all of my DIY wedding details and it alleviates the fear of forgetting something that is essential to the wedding.

Unfortunately this decision tore my side of my family apart because they felt like it should have been where the bride is from. They are slowly coming around to the idea of it being in Texas but it has been way more painful and heartbreaking of a process than I ever imagined that it would.

The very first thing we did was chose our Wedding Date! Seems crazy, but we were 100% set on July 03, because our anniversary is July 01, and we got engaged on July 02 (all different years by the way!). Lucky for us our venue had our date available as well.
