What color bra to wear under your dress

Combay, on February 1, 2013 at 8:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

I know it sounds silly and I've read nude, but nude is usually made to match non-black races. So for those of darker complexions, what color garments are you wearing under your dress please.

Thanks.

You will want one that is closest to your skin tone. Depending upon your dress, you can also have cups sewn in, which would take care of it.

I haven't seen any browns in the corset bras. Only black, nude and white. So right now I'm trying to figure out which I should get. When I went to DB, they gave me a white one to try on. Their cup sizes aren't big enough so I have to order something online. :-(

How "dense" is your dress? Have you tried on black to see if it would show through?

I dont think the bra has to match your skin color.i think white would probably work the best because it would be harder to see under your dress. assuming that your dress is white if your bra is black or brown it would probably show through

I guess I could hold a black bra under the fabrics. I haven't finished the dress yet.

Actually, a white bra, even on a pale skinned woman, will show through thinner fabrics. This is why "nude" is recommended. The closer the bra color to the skin tone, the less noticeable it is.

Another recommendation would be to purchase a white bra and have it dyed to match. I have never dyed clothing, so you would need to ask someone who has experience with that.

Yikes. This freaking bra is starting to be more expensive then my dress. Ugh. I'm considering just getting a strapless bra and wearing a shaper instead of the full basque which seems to be my problem.

MrsSmith, I'm not an average "put a cup in gal" LOL. I also don't trust my sewing skills to that extend to make something that would support the girls enough. I have huge fear of boob slippage.

I told my Mom I was going to wear leopard print when she asked me what color bra and panties I'm going to wear.... But in seriousness I've been told by a friend that is a personal shopper to start with a bra close to the same shade as my dress then adjust as needed. How close are you to finishing your dress? If you have different colors of bras you can try to see which bleeds through. You also want to have someone take a picture with flash to make sure that it still looks good in a photo. I have a shirt that looks fine in person with any color bra but in a photo it's completely see through - and it is not a thin shirt.

I would see if the black shows through. Many black women I know if their skin tone is dark enough wear black bras under white garments.

If not I have seen a few brown long line bras but they are harder to find. You may have to purchase online.

ETA: You aren't the only women with this problem either:

Brandi, I'll give that a try with taking a flash pic of the bra under the material. Carrie, that's an interesting article and I agree, but black comes in sooooo many shades it would be hard to make enough nudes. KadiePop, I love that bra at herroom, but it doesn't come in my size. :-(. This is the only strapless in my size http://www.amazon.com/Panache-Bridal-Basque-Bustier-Ivory/dp/B004R1FFV2/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1359820215&sr=1-1&keywords=evie+panache and it come in ivory only. My other choice would be to buy a bra with straps and add straps to my dress. I knew this would be hard, but I didn't think it would be this difficult. Ugh

Combay, you will be able to find something... Check stores that cater to plus size women and you even want to check stores that generally cater to exotic dancers. It sounds strange but they most likely will carry your cup size. Hope this helps.

Didn't think about checking with exotic dancers sites. Hmm. Good point

I have a ivory satin dress and will wear a full felina corset white bra. You could not see through the dress at all. I think it depends on the materisl of the dress. If it is lace or sheer material I woulf do black.
