What BM dress material goes best with lace wedding dress?

Joanna G, on February 11, 2013 at 9:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

We are going bridemaid shopping againSmiley smile I thought I wanted a certain dress for them but changed my mind. No one bought it so no harm done. This time, I am more prepared on what I want. I want cocktail or tea length dresses in purple (maybe 1 shade, maybe 3) but what I am unsure about it the material. I've included a couple of pics of my dress. Should theirs be satin or chiffon? Should I ask them for a vote? lol...

Any material will go with your dress. For me I was set on satin! I get to the store and see the girls in chiffon and then went with chiffon, go figure lol. I suggest you pick a day when you can go with all of your girls or just 1 and decide with them there.

I liked the chiffon because it seemed to flow nicely on them whereas the satin just seemed like too much and bulky.

I think you will get a better feel if you see one of them in the two materials.

For an October wedding, I'd probably go with satin. To me chiffon is a late spring/summer fabric because it's so light and airy.

I want the bridesmaid’s dresses to either be lace as well or chiffon. The issue I have with lace for them is that my dress is a horizontal lace and I’m afraid the laces won’t match. I’ve been seeing a lot of cute chiffon dresses that I think go well with the lace theme! I like the high low chiffon dresses. Lace is pretty easy to match with, I think almost anything will go.

First off, gorgeous dress! I love all lace dresses, I just didnt end up with one and it always makes me jealous when i see beautiful dresses like yours! Smiley laugh

My sister did an all lace dress and she originally wanted us in lace too. But then she picked out some gorgeous satin gowns and they look really nice- key is to not be too shiny with the fabric and that varies from place to place. Her wedding is also in october.

I hope you all find your BM dresses too. High-lo sounds cute!

Thanks everyone! I should mention that my colors are purple. I looked at Satin but it looked really overpowering in that color plus one of my MOHs is a plus sized girl and she's giving me a bit of trouble about having short dresses. I think the chiffon will fit on every body shape.

Chiffon tends to cling. Satin will flow away from the body, depending on the style. I have always hated my tummy area and I was super self-conscious in chiffon. Have them try on everything and see what works. Everything works with lace. I'd worry more about style than fabric.

I think it's what ever your preference is, for me my dress is lace over English netting and the girls and I liked chiffon, I let them choose their style but I ask for the same color and we voted for long dresses

I didn't know chiffon clings! I will keep an open mind when we go this weekend. A lot of the dresses that they girls are sending me are high waisted/empire waisted so it looks really loose in the tum area.

My dress is lace over net, not satin, so there is absolutely no shine to my dress. Therefore I opted against putting the bm's in satin. I went with chiffon because (1) there are plenty of options (2) it is a lightweight fabric, perfect for my spring wedding and offsets the dark color I chose for my girls (burgundy), (3) I think it will look best next to my lace dress. The only downside is that chiffon is pretty thin so it can show more lumps and bumps than a lot of girls are comfortable with. I think most of my girls are planning one wearing some Spanx under their dresses.

It's really up to you. Lace is a great material because it goes with everything. I'd say loo at the styles that are available in each and see what you like and what looks good on the majority of your BM's. we are going with chiffon because of the time of year. we are having a late june outdoor wedding and I didn't want my BM's to be roasting in satin, and I like the flowiness of chiffon, plus I just think that it is a flattering and forgiving material (I have a BM who is a 6, one who is a 10 and one who is an 18)
