What are your wedding day must haves?

Brittani, on December 4, 2019 at 6:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Advice that I got from a previous bride was to make a list of things that you absolutely would not cheap out on and things that you don't care about that much. What's on your splurge list? For me, I have to have an awesome photographer/videographer and catering.

The 3 things that make a guests experience: food, drinks and entertainment. We picked a banquet hall that was known for their food, we provided all the alcohol and made sure there was a wide variety, and we had a DJ that emceed the event and kept the dance floor full all night.

We did not skimp on photo and video since those are the only physical things we will have after the day is over. We also provided transportation for our parents and bridal party since there were multiple locations, getting ready, photos, ceremony, and reception, and drinking, I did not want to worry about drinking and driving on my wedding day.

Food was my #1 priority. I upgraded our menu for that reason.

Photography, flowers, and food. I have a nut allergy and diabetes, so we couldn't really just go with just anything. Flowers were important to me because I had a specific vision based off of my favorite flowers. And photos are infinitely important.

#1 was decorations, Since I can't afford a actual Disney Word wedding lol. I wanted the decoration to be my main concern.

#2 Having a violinist for the ceremony.

#3 was Red velvet cake! I had to have red velvet as my wedding cake.

Everything else I didn't care for and tried to keep low in cost. I was lucky enough to find a venue that had plenty of reviews for delicious food. I wasn't too preoccupied with menu of choice to be honest. It's chicken or beef lol

#1 was venue, it's a hotel that looks like a castle and it was the closest thing I was getting in Canada without driving 8+ hours! #2 is our ceremony spot, it's next to a river and it'll be so pretty in August. Everything else was kinda meh. I know it sounds corny, but I'm just excited to marry my FH

I didn't really splurge on anything (I'm not complaining; I had exactly the wedding I wanted) but I definitely agree that really putting thought into what is important and what isn't is a great way to kickoff planning.

The top 3 or so things that each of you value are worth spending money, time, and energy on. Everything else? Do a simple, budget version or eliminate altogether.

My venue was super important to me. I wanted to make sure no one would have to drive after the reception after drinking, since most of our guests are not from this area. Food is also super important and we picked a caterer that has awesome reviews and the tasting was great. Then my other splurge was my dress. I have a great photographer but I wanted my dress to be super special and exactly what I wanted.

For our DW: 1) venue, 2) fine food & drinks, 3) photographer.

For our local reception, the priority was entertainment: big band, Frank Sinatra impersonator, audio tech, lighting, staging.

Alcohol. I don’t drink bottom self anything, neither do my family or friends, and wouldn’t want to for my wedding day. So the first thing we signed off on with our venue is top shelf open bar.
The only other thing I really focused on was our photographer. It was really important to have someone who could capture us on film and had a personality we liked. After the wedding is over, we want to be able to have the best pictures possible.

We wanted our first meal as husband and wife was with our family. FH wanted dancing. I wanted a photographer to take our pictures. The best things is we didn’t have to spend an arm and a leg to pay for them!!

Our top priorities, that we splurged on, were a great photographer, great videographer, food, and open bar.

I will not be cheap on the menu, photographer and videographer. These will leave a lasting impression on my guests and my memories for years to come. I did cheap out a little on my dress. I can’t justify paying so much on a dress for one day so prices kept me from splurging but I still managed to find something I like that wasn’t expensive and I talked a shop owner into lowering her price by me paying cash.

The venue the food from the venue and Photographer/Videographer are my top priorities!

Something I'm looking for cheaper options on are invites since people will throw them out anyways.

Lol its probably the main reason why I'm stressed over the wedding! I'm going crazy over the small details! Our wedding is Beauty And The Beast theme. I have satin royal blue tablecloths with champagne runners for a more romantic feel, 2 mickey flower heads for my sweetheart table, mints that say "mint to be" in the Disney font for each guest, I bought a BATB snapchat filter for guest to use the day of the wedding, I have mini gold mirror mickey heads to sprinkle on our tables with our names plus wedding date, also have tiny mickey head jewels for the tables as well, I bought a backdrop poster of the grand staircase in the movie to hang behind the cake, our first dance is to so this is love, I have a violinist for the ceremony playing Disney love songs, I made rose domes for the centerpieces, I bought books from goodwill painted the spins and book pages gold for the table numbers to stand on, our signature drink is called "Enchanted Rose", the cake table will have miss pots, chip plus cogsworth, Lumière is represented on the tables with gold three are candelabras, then the caked is a two tier red and gold cake complete with a sugar rose with a glass dome, also have mini cake shooters in five flavors with one being "the Grey Stuff", ect!. All on a budget and plenty of sales! Trust me decorations was my only main concern from the start of planning.

I am surprised this has been an unpopular answer- for me #1 was the dress! LOL I was not going to settle for anything less than “the one”. I just knew if I didn’t feel beautiful and comfortable, everything else will be less enjoyable. Our other top priorities were location (we wanted to pick someplace that reflected us, and also was a fun Destination for our guests), open bar (this was another non-negotiable for us), and photographer (this will be the only tangible “memory” from our day, so we didn’t want to skimp in it)
