What are you doing with your dog the day of your wedding??

Amber, on August 23, 2013 at 3:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

We've got a 7 year old lab.. every time we go out of town we have one of our moms or close friends watch him but they'll be at the wedding too. We've never boarded him (we've never HAD to) and we don't want him to be home alone all day -- he's an indoor dog. What are you doing with your dog, if he's not IN the wedding? I'm weird about trusting people with him.

My parents are planning on watching our dog. He's very special to us - but we're not sure if we want to put him in the wedding yet or not.

We’re boarding our dog for the wedding weekend. He is boarded 1-2 per year at the same place when we go on vacation with our famalies. I think boarding is fine as long as you research the place online. Make sure it has good reviews and go and check out the place before you drop your dog off. I wouldn’t trust someone to watch my dog either. I would fear they wouldn’t be paying attention and he’d slip out the door or something! Plus everyone I would trust is coming to the wedding.

We got married out of state and our dog was in our wedding so he came with us and we just made sure to book a pet friendly hotel. If he wasn't in the wedding, we have various friends and people who volunteer to dog sit him who would have watched him for the weekend. I could never board my dog as I also picky about who I trust with him.

As for our actual wedding, he was in our wedding so was with us until the reception started. By shear luck, a childhood friend of mine happened to live pretty close to our venue so I asked her to dogsit him for the reception. She came by, picked him up when we were finished photos and then then we picked him up after the wedding.

How far away is your wedding from home? Will you only be gone the one day? Could you have a trustworthy friend/neighbor/co-worker come let him out, feed him, walk him during the day so you wouldn't actually have to board him?

We board our dogs at least once a year, so they'll be boarded for that time.

Our dog is going to stay home by himself on the wedding night Smiley sad

I feel awful, but he has been boarded in the past, and it did NOT work out well.

We are having an evening ceremony, so FH doesn't have to leave our apt until late afternoon, so it won't be all day. We are staying at a hotel that night, but we might ask as family member to go check on him after the reception.

He's pretty good about using those pee pads during the day while we are at work if he can't hold it. He'll have run of the apartment, so I would rather him be alone at home versus being alone in a strange place if we boarded him.

For the honeymoon, he will be with my parents.

We are boarding our dog for the weekend. Then a friend is apartment sitting while we go on our honeymoon. We have never boarded her before but just don't have another option.

We haven't decided yet. We have 2 older dogs but they used to be problem dogs lol. When we moved in here there is usually one of us at home most times. We have a dog door but afraid to leave it open since they have no common sense of when to come in. One doesn't care for most people and has been known to snap at them.

I have 3 dogs and my family has about 6 so we take them to my parents which is really close to the wedding site and we will put them in the kennels at their house or in the house. They are all outdoor dogs except for my doxen who loves to be in her bed.

I am lucky enough to have an awesome couple who opened a doggy hotel out of their house. Harrison hotel for Dogs. She takes pictures and put them on fb with updates on what your pup has been up to during the day. They get so much attention and play time they come home WORN out! Good luck finding the right place. You'll know they love your dogs almost as much as you do when you meet them hopefully Smiley smile

We are going to have to board our dogs. I'm always nervous leaving them with strangers, but everyone we know will be at the wedding so there will be no one available to watch them! I suggest going around to tour different boarding facilities. That way you'll be able to see if the dogs are in little mini rooms of if they're put in kennels, and you'll be able to see how other dogs are behaving - in general do the dogs seem content, do they seem stressed out, etc. Now that we've found a boarder we trust, it makes it a lot easier to leave our boys behind when we go out of town.

Well, our dog is going to be the ring bearer. Haha, it sounds so extremely "tacky" - I know how much everyone LOVES that word around here- but seriously, I love my dog just slightly less than FH, so he has to be in the wedding SOMEHOW.

If I were you, I would start putting your dog in a doggy daycare every so often- get him used to being away from you and in a "boarding" type of envorinment. Then, on the day of, put him in daycare and have him stay the night.

As a wedding present, our pet/house sitter is taking care of the house Friday - Sunday. In addition to our normal dogs my BFF is bringing her two as well to the house. Our house sitter will also be attending the wedding but the dogs will be fine for the hours she is gone.

We house share at the moment so my two dogs live with four other dogs... We'll leave our pets at home for who ever to look after. Before we house shared we would just ask my mom to come babysit... We have six pets that need looking after...

A co-worker of mine (I am a vet tech) will be watching him. She will be attending the wedding so he will be alone a few hours but she will be staying at our house so he will be 100% comfortable. After the wedding we leave for our honeymoon so my mom will be picking my pup up from my co-worker and taking him to her house (his second favorite place!) and she will watch him for the week we are gone. I am very fortunate to have people I trust with my dog who love him as much as I do Smiley smile

Ours isn't in the wedding but will be at the wedding (its a farm so lots of other animals to hang out with)

I would look into boarding - and research them (or do you have a friend not invited to wedding who will look after him)

As you can see in my profile we also have a yellow lab who we adore. She will be staying at Camp Bow Wow which is a "chain" type boaridn facility found all over the country. Their facilities are awesome and you can watch your dog on web cam. They have a very structured schedule for them and require an "interview" with the dog where you drop them off for a couple hours. Its a great facility. Not sure where you are getting married or if theres one near by but I strongly recommend them

We have a destination wedding in Virginia. We are driving our dog to FHs parents house in WV and their dog sitter is going to watch him for the weekend and then FHs parents are watching him for our honeymoon and we will grab him in the way home.

I don't know what we are gonna do with our dog. I have been on FH for 2 months to lets take him to day care a couple of days a week so he can get used to going but to no avail. 25 days until we leave and still no clue where my baby is going Smiley sad

This is touchy for me at this point.

My wedding is far off but this is honestly one of the things that freaks me out the most. I have 3 dogs, and we have never boarded them. One is terrified of everything and one is (I hate to say it) kind of a bitch, so I would be nervous boarding them anywhere. Plus we're getting married in Michigan, so boarding them there would automatically mean they'd be in a new place.

I think our solution is to keep them at my mom's house, where we'll be getting ready, and hire someone to stop in a few times that night and later that morning to let them out and feed them and make sure they have water. They'll be alone overnight, but I know this will be better than taking them to a strange place. I know, I baby my dogs. We've had friends do this for us before when we go out of town, and other than the bratty dog refusing to come back inside, there weren't any problems. You can hire professional pet sitters to do this for not too much money. We might also just ask one of my cousin's kids.

We took our dog with us to the area where we had our wedding. However, she stayed back at our accommodations during the ceremony and reception. It was no longer than she would stay at home by herself when we went to work, so we didn't see it as a big deal.
