What are the top things to be done?

Stacey, on June 11, 2019 at 5:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 60
What is your top 5 things that you felt needed to be done first? I’m 13 months away from wedding day and all I have is the venue chosen.

I think you still have quite a bit of time. When we got engaged we have 11 months to plan. First things we took care of was BUDGET, Guest list, Dress, Venue, Cake, Photographer, HMUA.

    Budget

    Venue
    Caterer
    Photographer

Those were the things that all kind of hinged on one another, so those were what got prioritized.

    decorator if you’re having one

I think I finally found a photographer I want. The guest list keeps changing all the time for me.

Ohhhh...I don’t think I realized that cake would book so fast. I should start looking into that.

I've got all of these done now, just making my vendor payments! I also have my dress, veil, undergarments. Now just need to focus on desserts (not having a traditional cake), and attire for my BMs and FHs GMs, and decor. Not too much left to do, really. I'm trying to take my time and enjoy it as much as I can.

I couldn’t imagine putting everything together in 11 months. I salute you and those that have short engagements.

Pretty much the same as what everyone else is suggesting. First, I set a comfortable budget. I picked a maximum number that I felt 100% okay with spending. After that, I sat down with FH and we created the first draft of our guest list. Then, I started researching venues that could comfortably house our maximum number for guests. Next, I hired a photographer and a photo booth guy.

    1. Venue (especially if you have one that you're interested in)

    2. Photographer (this was most important for me, because it was the only decision that was going to stretch way past the wedding day -- those pictures are memories for life.

    3. Caterer

    4. Cake

    5. Rentals

Everyone else said budget and guest list. I personally had so many changes in my guest list along the way that I don't suggest putting too much effort into making one right away. Another common one I see is budget. With both of these things, it's really hard to make solid numbers this far ahead in the game. Sure, it'd be nice. But rounded estimates are much more realistic in my opinion.

1 Budget honestly the most important thing to us it to see how we can budget and cut back costs thankfully our parents are paying for 95% of the wedding

    2. Venue we knew we wanted an outdoor spring wedding so this took the most time trying to find a venue in our budget and one we loved and since we booked it last year we got that price before it increased

3 Photographer we used our engagement photos to see if we wanted to book her for our wedding and we already knew we would because we LOVE her work and we vibed so well

    4 Videographer

    5. DJ!

Nice! I’m the planner where my FH is more of a procrastinator.

That’s kinda how I was feeling. I found a photographer but FH thinks we have time to get the rest of the stuff scheduled. I personally don’t think so. If you find someone you like at a great price, I say you jump on it.

I also think a photographer is important to schedule ASAP.
