What are the best disposable plates and silverware?

OregonEmily, on April 17, 2014 at 5:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I feel guilty going disposable, (so much waste!) but renting is way more expensive and my venue doesn't offer composting.

Anyone have any experience with these? There are a lot of good options on amazon.

I was thinking either "Reflections" or "Silver Secrets" silverware.

I'm not sure about plates though.

Opinions? Suggestions?

    So, just a thought!!

    I, too, was going to go the disposable route. However, I found a gal on CL who had bought a ton of mismatched china plates and silverware for her wedding and wanted to unload them. I got 200 plates and 200 sets of forks, knives and spoons for $175. It was a STEAL. The downside is that we have to have our servers stay a little later to wash them after, but I was like you- did not want to waste and at the same time, I will get to re-sell them afterwards and probably make my money back!

    So, maybe a different answer than you were looking for, but just a thought Smiley smile

    @M & T- those are some really nice looking plates! A touch on the spendy side, but not bad.

    @Barbara- I like that idea!

    I'm bookmarking both of those as good options!

    Oh jeez. Best of both worlds! (M & T's website and barb's suggestion of biodegradable). More than what I ideally wanted to spend. But these are perfect for our natural style! Exciting!

    And upon further research, I think I'll go with these forks and knives (no need for spoons)

    I got all mine from Dollar Tree and they are plastic - white with a silver rim and they look just like real plates - that I will wash myself and resell.

    We used "just like silver" utensils and the same company's decorative disposable plastic ware from Costco or amazon

    I just got mine out of the wedding section at Walmart. Cheaper than party city.

    I plan to try and find larger clear ones, so I can diy some cute chargers lol. Idk or sure about that part, but who knows.

    For $36 at Walmart, I got 40 dinner plates and 40 dessert plates...

    We are using Masterpiece (looks like fine china) and Reflections (flatware that looks like silver) for our buffett. We ordered them off Amazon.

    How much does your rental company charge? Buying paper may not actually be much cheaper.

    Here is this site I found with really nice looking plastic plates/cool serving stuff http://www.restaurantware.com/plastic-plates/

    I'm just going with Chinet dinner plates. I looked in to clear plastic but the reviews said it was all pretty flimsy. Especially because we will have hot BBQ food, I needed to be safe.

    I bought these at party city with a coupon. Mine are more "pearl like" than the plain white.

    Edited: because I can't spell

    I'm a little late to the game but Bambu makes some awesome stuff too and it isn't that expensive:

    Oh! If you are a member of costco- they have some super nice disposable plates! If I had not gotten my stuff taken care of, I would go that route!

    You might also consider inexpensive stainless steel flatware, which is less likely to break than plastic and can be washed and resold. For example,

    * Forks, $1.85 a dozen, http://www.instawares.com/walco-7-1-4in-dominion.wal-7405dz.0.7.htm

    * Knives, $3.64 a dozen, http://www.instawares.com/walco-dominion-dinner-knife.wal-7443dz.0.7.htm

    * Spoons, $1.18 a dozen, http://www.instawares.com/walco-dominion-stainless-steel.wal-7401dz.0.7.htm

    Lots of great suggestions! Thanks everybody! FH is super excited about the biodegradable options. Being one of the only wedding things he's gotten excited about, I think we are going that route!
