Were your vows kept a secret before the wedding?

Ariella, on January 27, 2016 at 5:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Sorry I have been so absent lately. Things are crazy!! We moved into a new home and have started the renovations. On top of that, I am finishing up my internship for grad school while working full time, and wrapping up wedding planning. My plate is definitely full lol.

Things are a little slow today at work so I started writing my vows.

I was curious, did any of you show your vows to close family or friends before the wedding day or did you keep them totally a secret?

We actually chose simple, traditional-type vows for our ceremony, but we hand wrote our own private vows to each other and read them to each other one evening on the beach during our honeymoon.

We're doing traditional vows and were planning to write a letter to each other that day, but I love what @Mrs. K did by reading them on their honeymoon. I'm worried about ruining my makeup on that day haha and it would take some pressure off.

Only DH and our officiant saw them before the ceremony.

I believe my DH wrote his right before the ceremony - so I don't think anyone else saw them. Mine were kept secret from everyone, not by choice. I just didn't have time to show them to anyone before hand. I didn't even have time to hand write them as I had planned. They were still printed from my PC w/ all kinds of edits on them.

We are combining traditional vows with a few of our own and are going to keep them secret! The one thing we are doing is coming up with a specific number and general format for them. That way we appear fairly uniform overall Smiley smile

Yes, private! We had our own personal vows, plus the traditional "repeat after me's". We wrote our ceremony, so we know what the traidiotnal vows would be. Our officiant had the vows the day before and I let some of my bridesmaid read them before the wedding Smiley smile

H and I both shared with my sister (she's a writer) so she could make sure they were more or less the same length. And I showed them to my best friend.

I am not the type of person to hold something in if I am excited about it lol I feel like I have to share with someone. I really want to show my BM (FSIL and sister), but am torn between it being a surprise and sharing.

We chose traditional vows. We didn't write them per se, although we did choose the wording exactly as we wanted it. DH and I picked them together so no, they weren't a surprise.

We are going to be writing our own vows, and I think I'd like our officiants to see them. I'm pretty sure FH and I will be on the same page, but I think it's a good idea for someone to see both sets of vows. On the off chance that one of us writes way more than the other, or the tones are totally different.

Only our officiant saw our vows before the wedding. He didn't tell us that mine were longer than DH's or that the tones were similar. He said he didn't want us to worry about trying to rewrite them. Mine weren't too much longer than his.

I had my mom look at them because I just needed someone else to read them.
