Welcome Wedding Drinks

Samantha, on March 15, 2019 at 9:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Hi all!!

So I’m hoping for some advice with wording. We are having an out-of-state wedding (3 hour drive) and I would love to have welcome drinks with our guests after our reherseal dinner but I’m not seeing how we can fit it in the budget. Should I....

1.) Include “come join us for drinks” on the itinerary and have it implied somehow that it won’t be covered by us.... if so, what would that wording be?
2.) Include “come join us for drinks” on the itinerary and simply tell people word of mouth that it’s their dime.
3.) Don’t include it at all and just tell people to come meet us after the rehearsal dinner.

This is tricky. I need to hit the lottery within the next five months. Thanks in advance for help!

The third option. Adding it to the invitation in any way makes it sound like a hosted event.

I’m thinking third too. I wouldn’t add it on the formal invitation but rather on the website and add a little note in the bag guests will get when they check-in but either way, I think you’re right... is it terrible to not do anything other than the little bags? Would people notice this?

How about a cash bar for 750$. After that runs out, people buy their own.... is that okay to do? We are expecting 100 guests for the wedding and probably only half would come to the welcome drinks.

If it's in budget, that would be 1, maybe 2 drinks each depending on what that drink was. Maybe put a "drink voucher" in the welcome bags so everyone gets at least 1? My family is more of a "we'll bring the cooler, you tell us where" kind of group so this suggestion is not experience based lol

I think option 3 would be best. Then it isn't expected you eat the cost

We will have something in our welcome pamphlets like "Come meet us in the hotel bar around 8:00 PM on Friday if you would like! The bride & groom & parents will be hanging out for an hour or two to say hello to all our out of town guests."
