Welcome bags...1 per guest of couple?

Kristin, on March 9, 2013 at 6:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Hey all,

Just a question to those of you who had welcome bags/baskets at your destination weddings - did you/are you planning to have one bag per guest or one bag per couple?

We have a few couples coming but also a few singles. I am trying to cut down on cost but also don't want to seem stingy...is it OK to have one bag per couple or should I do one bag per guest?

When I went to an OOT wedding, we just had a bag in our room, which was for me and my mother. So I think it's one per couple/room, so if you have singles they would also get a bag, ya know?

I'm with per couple. It makes more sense. FH wouldn't care if he didn't get a bag just for him. *lol*

That's good to know. I was speaking to a bride the other day about this and she said that she was doing one bag per guest so everyone got their own items, which is nice but adds an extra couple hundred to the budget Smiley atonished Glad what she is doing is not the usual!! It made me second guess if I was cheaping out or not.

I'm going to do per couple. It's just a nice gesture no need to break the bank Smiley smile

Per room, but putting quite a bit of snacks in there and 2 water bottles in each one.

I'm also having a destination wedd. We have many singles of 4 sharing a room. So we are doing one each. However may have a few things in it different hoping they share (snack wise).

I'm doing per guest because my welcome bags include a lot of practical personal products: lip balm, lotions, sanitizer, etc.

Beyond that, go per room. Good luck!

When we went to a destination wedding we got 1 bag however it was two of everything in the bag so we each had things (Koozie, bottled water, snacks, etc etc.) I think 1 bag is enough. Some things I think we could have done with just one of the items but we both wanted the "To have and to hold and keep your beer cold" holder lol.

Wow...well if it was in the budget I would love to do one of everything for each of our guests but as I am wanting to include some quality local products (maui) in our bags we can only afford to do one per room. We will of course put two bottles of water in the bags for couples and where we have little snacks, like macadamia snack packs, we will put two....but other than that it's going to be one per room. I know our guests won't even be expecting ANYTHING like that so I think the fact they will get a welcome bag at all will delightfully surprise them. Christine - I love the "to have and to hold and keep your beer cold" koozie! lol I would want my own too.

Kristin, I totally understand about budget. With a destination wedding, every guest is an OOT guest. We are doing per guests because we only have about 20 OOT guests.

Ahh, I see ForeverMyLove. That would be a bit easier then. Also with a DW, WE the bride and groom our even OOT guests lol So trying to figure out how much we will buy here and take with us, what we will buy in Hawaii and what we can ship to our hotel/wedding planner before....sometimes I get overwhelmed with the planning but badly want to do this for our guests as we appreciate the time and money they have taken to share our special day!

Christine - Thanks for the tip. I will check them out - LOVE Oriental Trading. Definitely budget friendly Smiley smile

I am having the same debate! I think I am going to do one per couple, because in some rooms there are two couples, so it would be hard to do one per room. Ill put enough for two people in each box.

We are doing one bag per couple for our OOT bags, but are including two of everything in the bag.

    Hi there,

I just stumbled upon this thread and am currently having the same issue. My fiance and I think it's more budget friendly to do 1 bag per room and just including enough items for all guests. But, we'd also like to include koozies and a room key/cash holder for each guest. The only problem with that is that some of our rooms will be shared with 1 couple and other rooms, with 4 singles. I feel like it'd be difficult to put a specific amount of items into specific bags. If we put 4 koozies/holders in one bag, the rooms with only 2 people will be left with 2 extra and I feel like that's also a waste of money.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi Priscilla,

I'm still early in planning (gotta wait til my fiancee gets her DVM) but from looking at what my mom had been planning to do for my sister, she did just one per family which is what we are planning on. But we are putting the family name on each one (as we are inviting all the kids in the family and they will range from 3 years old to 16/17 year olds at that time) and they are going to have something for the kids in them - which will be geared to their ages. That way we can make sure that my sister with the 3 year old will get the bag with a toddler toy, whereas my cousins with the teenagers get the bags with suggestions of fun places in town for teens (a list I will get from my middle school students!). You could easily do the same thing and find out who is rooming with whom and put their names on the bag to make sure it gets to the right room and has the right amount of stuff in it.
