Weight Watchers or Nutrisystem for my wedding diet? Should I try it?

FutureMrsMerritt, on November 12, 2014 at 10:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Has anyone done weight watchers or nutristystem? I use to be able to work out a lot, but since planning the wedding, moving and switching jobs all in the last month I find myself with limited time to do much of anything. Since I can't really exercise I was wondering if there was a way to just clean up my diet better. Have any of you had experience with these weight loss programs? A co-worker of mine lost 30 pounds on weight watchers and has kept it off and exercises now just to tone. How expensive is this? Where do I start?

I did Weight Watchers back in the beginning of the year and loved it. I only used the online tracking but it helped to give me a totally different outlook on what I ate and how I cooked. I'm not currently following it but most of the recipes I cook do and plan on tracking again after the holidays to lose the weight gained from them.

I've maintained my weightloss for the most part since then and have even lost a couple pounds more (but also yo-yo a gain back a pound, loose a half pound). I would suggest trying that and it wasn't expensive ($30/month I think for it...) but you have to be honest with yourself and that can be hard to do at first!

I am on Jenny Craig and I love it. I knew that I would never be able to count points and calories with weight watchers & JC takes the hard part right out of it. You just eat the meals, exercise, and lose.

@Leslye how much is JC a month? I never even thought about that with weight watchers.... I'm so bad keeping track of things.

I did the Nutrisystem years ago....for about 2 minutes...I opened the food, or what was labeled food and ehhh. After watching my SIL drop 30 pounds on weight watchers I decided to join..it's only been 2 weeks and I'm down 4 pounds without any exercise really..and I even had a pig out day at Unos..lol Yeah the points can be a pain but the beginning is their Simple Start which just tells you all your options, you eat those with no counting.

I should just save this reply/copy it whenever this comes up, I feel like I repeat myself quite a bit here lol.

Anyway, I did Weight Watchers (online, no meetings) starting in January 2012. I lost a TON of weight, and have maintained that loss for over 1 year now (I hit my big goal in Oct 2013). After 3 months of WW online, I switched to using a cheap copycat app for my phone to calculate points/keep tracking food. It costs about $4 (one-time purchase!) and is called "Ultimate Food Diary" or "Value Diary" depending on which app market you shop with (android/apple).

It is so flexible and really helped me get a grip on mindful eating. For nutrisystem, there is very little flexibility and I am told the food is awful. If you need the convenience of prepackaged/prepped food, just buy frozen lean cuisine/smart ones/health choice etc meals at the store. They all come with the WW points value on the back. Smiley smile And you can still eat whatever else you want if you decide to. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about what I went through/my experiences.

I did WW, but it's didn't work so well for me because, yes you track points but you can pretty much eat what you want as long as you are tracking. You are supposed to hit other 'goals' each day too, but just didn't work so well. Now I'm just eating really healthy. Staying under a limit for carbs/fats/and x amount of protein each meal. That and getting back to the gym has me feeling a lot better! Maybe try doing something like this if you think you can stick to it verse spending the money to a program? Good luck!

@jillian I would love to do that! That has been my go to plan but hasn't worked for me which is why I am considering weight watchers. I think I am going to try it out and see how it works, thanks everyone! And thanks Munashi! I will let you know how it goes Smiley smile
