What are your thoughts/opinions on a wedding during the week?

My fiance thinks we should keep it on the weekend but I am thinking outside the box.

Let's face it, we all don't work typical Monday-Friday, 9-5 jobs anymore...myself included.

Having a wedding during the week would cut costs & would cut down on the number of guests attending.

..So what do you think? I am just looking for other people's opinions on this.

Nothing is set in stone, just a thought!

I personally wouldn't stay out late on a workday, unless it was my best friend's wedding. However, my friend is having her wedding on a Thursday and it's saving her a butt-ton of money and the way she sees it is, "those who want to be there, will be there." Which is true, I would've liked a weekday wedding for myself simply because having it on a Saturday leaves the option open for a lot of people we were counting on (read: hoping) not coming, will be able to.

Unless she's paying for the wedding, you're certainly not obligated to invite FMIL's co-workers. Or even the whole family, although you may feel that way now.

So basically if she's paying and you're OK with her making such huge decisions as the guest list, sure, fine.

But if not, this is the right time to put your foot down. If she thinks she can make your guest list without paying for the wedding, good luck with other decisions she will make for you along the way.

My fiance & I will be paying for the wedding but yes she likes to run the show & have things her way.

However, I kinda of see Monday being a pain but a Thursday or a Friday are good alternatives. Like I've stated, I just said a Monday because I want the date to mean something. Then again, I guess any date will mean something because it will be our day! & I definitely agree, those who want to be there & mean the most will be there. I know that!

Wow! you're nice. I would have a huge issue with her.

Good luck and you're right any day you choose is going to be special just don't put yourself on the back burner for FMIL.

Definitely the sooner you put your foot down, the better. If you stay around WW for a while, you'll see how many brides resent their FMILs/ILs in general/whoever because they let them get away with stuff like this and then it was too late to do anything.

Well, it's really nice to know I'm not the only one. She has never been really nice to me anyway since I 'took her baby away'. I'm sure some of you know how that goes!

& I can't please everyone, so I mind as well please myself, especially since it's our wedding!

We're having our wedding on a Wednesday which works great for us as the bulk of our wedding guests either have flexible work schedules, work in the service sector, or like me work in ministry so weekday is really our weekends. I would check with your must-have guests.

FMIL - speaking from experience definitely nip that one in the bud.
