Weekday Wedding??

Christy, on May 12, 2019 at 3:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

So my FH and I will be traveling to TX next month (sooo excited!!) to tour venues for our June 2020 wedding. As of right now we had the date June 28 in mind which is a Sunday, but the week after that is Thursday, independence week. A lot of people we work with get long weekend because of that, but not everyone on our wedding list does.

My question is would it be a bad idea to have it on the Thursday before Independence day? A Thursday would cut the cost down of everything by a lot and we're paying for the wedding ourselves so that would help but were afraid some of our guests might not be able to make it, or that they'll just choose not to come because of independence day being the next day? Should I create a poll and asks my wedding guests themselves which they would prefer?

I think a poll is a good idea. We are doing a Friday because that is considerably cheaper than Saturday. If it works for you to do Thursday then go for it! You could even still do it a little later so if people do have to work they can still make it on time.

I would just keep in mind that if you have a lot of out of town guests, travel costs can be astronomical the week of major holidays. We probably wouldn’t travel out of town for a wedding the week of a holiday except for a close family member or best friend.

I’m in Texas and doing a Thursday wedding. I saved thousands. I still had a good amount of guests RSVP even out of town guests.

A private poll would be a good idea! I agree that travel close to holidays are super expensive, and not everyone gets it off work.

Double check with your venue.... some venues tend to charge extra the night before or after a holiday even if it is a weekday

Hi Christy! I’m actually getting married on June 25th, 2020. We originally planned to get married on a Saturday but we were open to the idea of getting married on a weekday since it’s during the summer and neither of our families would have a problem with taking time off of work with enough notice. My venue would have cost $6,900 for a Saturday wedding. We were able to get our venue for &3,600 for a Thursday wedding. Btw our venue is NOAHS Event Venue. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions about a weekday wedding. It’s been a breeze for me so far!

We are also doing a Thursday wedding! We only invited 60 people and we are paying for everything ourselves, so it has saved us a lot of money! I was concerned about people being able to come but as my cousin said, they can take one day off. If they don’t, it’s totally fine, I understand. We also don’t have a lot of out of town guests and the venue is close to everyone invited, so I don’t anticipate it being much of an issue.

I think if you have a lot of out of town guests, “no” due to traffic & travel costs. If everyone is local, why not poll your VIPs? Sounds promising!

Due to travel costs, we rarely go anywhere for holiday weekends and I’d love to kick-off that holiday long weekend with a wedding! 🎉

We are actually doing a Monday wedding on Columbus Day. Some people have the day off anyway and others are taking the day off. We did ask if people would attend that day before booking. But we are saving about between $3,000 - 4,500 by not having the wedding on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. If your guests are onboard with it, I say go for it!

It’s okay as long as you prepare yourself for possible declines. Some people plan their vacations around holidays. Other’s may not be able to get off the day before a holiday. A Thursday and a holiday week feels super inconvenient to guests.

Okay so update my FH and I just added the poll and the majority of votes so far are to keep it Sunday June 28th, but those votes are from my MOH who said “the date feels off” and my cousins who are college students that live 30 minutes from where we’re having the venue and who don’t travel for the 4th 🤦🏻‍♀️ As well as my FH’s sister who lives in Turkey and won’t be at the wedding. So I don’t know how if I should take those votes with a grain of salt or what

I agree, keep in mind if you have people coming from out of town that travel costs can be insane around a major holiday, and some people won't want to miss traditional family get-togethers around said holiday, either, and some venues might charge you more because of the holiday.

However, talk to your VIGs about the option before you rule it out completely. I know a lot of businesses are closed, so some guests might be more inclined because they might have to take less vacation time.

Hey Christy!! Have you chosen an exact date for your wedding yet? How did your venue tours go? Have you booked one yet?
