Weekday wedding

Hey Brides! Looking for advice on which weekday to pick for our small intimate wedding of about 30 adults and 4 children next October. Just our immediate family and closest friends and their plus ones. We chose our dream venue, a beautiful lakeside inn in upstate NY. We are renting the entire house for our family and they have other inns on the property to block for our friends. Looking at a mid-October date during peak fall foliage. However, the venue is a popular wedding weekend spot and has a Friday/Saturday/Sunday minimum that is far too high to meet for our guest count. Since we are trying to keep it small anyways, we figured why not just do a weekday! Thinking of the Monday or Tuesday of Columbus day so my niece, who is like my little sister and starts her freshman year of college next fall, can more easily attend. She already gets that Monday off and most colleges shes looking at have off Tuesday too. That way she might only miss one day or two of classes and already be visiting home. But I could do a Thursday the following week and she would still only miss two days but would have to travel home again. I am trying not to plan it all around her but I can't imagine getting married without her there, she's so important to me. I have a feeling Monday Columbus Day won't be available at this venue but I'll find that out tomorrow. Plus many people don't have this day off work anyways. Some of our family and friends live locally, some live in New England all within a 5-6 hour drive, two guests including my FH's only sibling lives in California. I know our siblings won't miss it and they are all for whichever day we choose. So has anyone ever had or attended a weekday wedding and have any suggestions on which day of the week would be more enjoyable. It's not a huge deal if some cannot come, the smaller the better for us but if our closest friends can make it, huge bonus! We will still have some music for dancing, lots of alcohol, a big amazing dinner, late night bonfire and snacks. It will be intimate, low key but hopefully still fun! Many of the guests will have to take off work the day after to travel back. I figured they would travel to the wedding the night before or early the morning of the wedding. Let me know what you think, thank you!!

Can you take a poll of your VIPs? I would think they would like a Thursday but if they want to stay on-property the weekend rates might be too high. That’s the problem we ran into so we chose a Monday in case guests wanted to stay later. Most of our 15 guests though were retired so a Monday wedding didn’t bother them. Our few friends who work were fine with it and only stayed in town Sun-Tue.

We are getting married July 7, 2020 which is a Tuesday. Our wedding is very small too with only immediate family; around 15 people. Family are coming in over the weekend and staying after the wedding for vacation. It was so much cheaper and everyone who is coming knows well in advance and are good with it. I love your plan and it sounds perfect!! Congratulations 💕

Ultimately do what makes you happy but maybe do a Thursday so that way to Lisa kind of leaving to the weekend people could take Thursday Saturday and Sunday off. Are going to a Tuesday David and make sure it's in the evening so that when people do need to work they can take off then head to your wedding.

If I had to pick a weekday I would probably go with Thursday like others are suggesting. I think it's much easier for people to make a 4 day weekend out of it or if they couldn't take the day off, it's easier to be out late on Thursday and just push through Friday than it would be to do the same on a Monday or Tuesday if that makes sense.

Mondays or Thursdays are nice. Monday coming out of a long weekend or Thursday going into one ensure your guest will have an easier time taking/getting time off. My fiance and I are getting married 9/2/21, the Thursday before Labor Day.

Thank you everyone for the advice! While I'd like a Thursday for our friends, it seems that Thursdays are higher rates since the venue fee is renting all rooms in the Inn. If it were a guest count, it would be worth the extra but since we are already splurging on our 30 guests it seems Monday or Tuesday will work best. It would be Columbus Day Monday possibly or Tuesday if not available. They could have a long weekend from work still and my niece can easily make it from college!
