Week day wedding

Billie, on April 17, 2020 at 1:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
What’s everyone’s feeling on a week day weeding? I’m looking at either Tuesday or Friday. It’d be around 200 people and a destination wedding for majority..I’m in Hawaiʻi and a lot of family friends would come from the mainland. With the world craziness, I’m having to postpone and looking at future dates that I like.

With both a destination and a weekday wedding, you just need to expect pretty low attendance--I think it's highly unlikely you'll get 100, depending on where family is, finances, travel plans, travel abilities, etc. If you're cool with lower attendance, then definitely go for it. Hawai'i is, as you know, an absolutely beautiful place and a popular destination, but destination weddings often put some financial burden on the guests that wouldn't normally be there, and because of that, you're going to get a good amount of declines.

I think the fact that people would be flying 5+ hours for the wedding is more of a factor than whether it's a weekend or a week-day wedding. I'd guess Friday would be your best bet for people to take the least amount of time off?

Also, I wouldn't expect any guests to commit to coming to a wedding down the road right now, due to the pandemic.

I would do Friday if possible. Honestly though, if you’re doing a destination wedding in Hawaii, I would assume most would want to make the most out of that trip and make a vacation out of it. So they would fly in and out a few days before/after the wedding so a weekday wedding would still work! Do you plan on hosting any other events the days leading up to the wedding like a Welcome Dinner?

I had a semi-destination wedding (half our guests had to drive 2 hours and the other half flew 5+ hours) and actually had exactly estimated the number of people who would attend. We hosted multiple events the two days before the wedding.

We had to postpone our wedding due to the virus And our venue only had weekdays open so we chose a Monday. We had invited around 173 people originally. Not sure how many are still going to be able to come

I'm going to go against the grain here and say Tuesday.

Before we had to change our plans, we were going to have a destination wedding to Hawaii, and the cheapest flights there were Sunday-Wednesday. People from the mainland will also need a day to adjust to the time difference. Finally, no one who is going to make the trip that far (and at that cost) is only going to go for a two-day weekend trip. We talked to all our VIP guests, too, and they all agreed that a weekday wedding was best. We would have selected Tuesday or Wednesday. Hope this helps!

We are getting married on the beach in Hawaii on a Tuesday. This is a destination wedding and we aren't expecting many guest. Maybe 20. Our wedding planner told us that weekdays are best for our type of venue. I realize that you have a much bigger guest list and probably a different venue but I think weekday venues are great if your guests are willing to use vacation time to come to your event.
