Wednesday wedding

Katrina, on March 3, 2021 at 4:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hi everyone... it’s been almost a year since I postponed my original wedding date of May 15,2020 to May 15 2021. We are postponing once again because at this point we realize a wedding this year will probably not resemble “normal” of any kind, at least not until late in the year. Plus the more I thought about it I didn’t want my wedding on the heels of Mother’s Day. So we traded up for 7/14/21. It’s a Wednesday (which is apparently a good omen) but we thought the date was cool, and we’ve decided to embrace non tradition. We are unsure of who will be invited, it may be only our immediate family but it also may include up to 30-40 guests. It’s not really a big party, there won’t be any dancing, just a celebratory dinner after. We are basically trying to use up our catering deposits and not lose any money while also finding a mean full way to celebrate with our closest friends. And at this rate if they can make it, great, but if they can’t that’s ok too.

I figure people have no problems going out to watch football games or trivia nights mid week, so what’s some of the thoughts on a Weeknight wedding?

Are most of the people you plan to invite local or traveling in? For those who have to travel, it may be harder to attend a midweek wedding since it is in the middle of a workweek and may require spending the night. Either way -- local or long distance -- those who want to be there will make an effort to do if you give them enough time to plan and make arrangements with work, child care, etc. Your reception sounds like it will be similar to mine (20 people, minimal dancing, but DEFINITELY a good time -- my guests are still talking about it 6 weeks later). Good luck with your new plans!

We are doing a sunrise wedding followed by a breakfast reception on a Thursday (7-1-21). We also chose to fully embrace "nontraditional" and just do it. Congratulations!!

Thanks Sharonda! Your words are definitely encouraging. Most people are local and child free for the most part. The ones that would have to travel (maybe 10 of them) I consider maybes due to the climate, and completely understand if they are unable to make it. I plan on sending out an announcement after April to see where things are.

I think if you’re holding your wedding locally then I don’t see why anyone couldn’t make it. They just might not want to stay too late at the reception if they have work the next day or anything

I say go for it! We choose our date because of the numbers (4/3/21) so I totally understand that point. Turns out it’s on a Saturday but it’s also Easter weekend. That cut our numbers a little.

I don't see an issue with it. People who want to be there will be there. I can remember working three jobs in university and going WITHOUT MEALS to be able to afford to travel out of town.

Our wedding is in a Monday. 7.5.21– it’s a holiday for most; but I think it’ll be great! Smiley smile

Some people may leave early but it’ll still be a great time

I would be there til dawn because I love weddings and I could handle one day of lost sleep. But I think some people might leave early. Also given my job, I would almost certainly be late/texting my boss from the bathroom haha--Wednesday is a big day for us and I can't be offline.

If your VIP guests are local, then go for it! I would not be able to do this because most of my family works and would need to travel 1-4 hours and my sister lives on the opposite coast right now. If I were invited as a friend, I would be disappointed though because it is very inconvenient with my work, days can become unpredictably long and draining, I don’t know if I’d have it in me for a wedding after one of those days.

That sounds totally OK for a small dinner reception! Like you said, people do all sorts of things after work during the week like go out for dinner, attend concerts or a see a movie so why not a wedding? But I may be biased since I'm getting married on a Thursday Smiley smile
