Weddings Near Holidays

Paige, on August 8, 2022 at 9:56 AM Posted in Planning 1 12

If your wedding is (or would have been) near a holiday, are/ would you lean into the holiday as a theme or avoid it?

Our wedding is close to Halloween, but we're planning on doing our own thing. Our colors are essentially jewel tones, so they work for fall, but nothing about Halloween really fit "us." That being said, I've seen some really neat weddings that leaned into Halloween, Christmas, and even Valentine's Day!

Our wedding is the day before New Year's Eve. I actually campaigned for a NYE wedding in the beginning, but I was outvoted lol. It's fine because we'll save money. I'm not sure if we're particularly leaning into the holiday or avoiding it, but our color scheme involves lots of gold, which I think is festive. However, we are trying to avoid anything too Christmasy; it's a Jewish wedding.

I'd probably lean into the theme, but tastefully! We're getting married near Halloween too, and we're doing earthy and jewel tones too! I initially wanted a lot of black, deep purples, oranges, etc but FH was nottttt into it. Smiley xd

I do hate red and green for Christmas, though. That can't really be done tastefully IMO

We're getting married 2 weeks before Christmas, and I'm leaning in - a little. For me, I love Christmas and the deep red flowers with deep evergreens is the reason I wanted to get married then. My mother is a florist (and is doing our wedding) and always drilled into me - doesn't matter when you get married, but use seasonal flowers! Don't want a lilac and mint green wedding in January! Its a lot of red flowers with evergreens used for the base (I love the smell of pine...). We're not having poinsettias - which scream Christmas to me. We're going more winter vibes that straight Christmas. Lots of lanterns and twinkle lights and candles.

We're not doing anything overtly Christmasy - with the exception of the song my bridal party and I are walking down the aisle to. It's considered a "Christmas" song, though the version we are walking down to isn't the one most associated with the holiday and in reality is just a Catholic prayer put to music (we're having a string instrumental version played). We're not having trees decorated with ornaments, or Santa, or anything else that screams Christmas. And our colors (Black, Burgundy, Deep Emerald, and Gold) are almost like Christmas and New Years Eve had a baby (black is very prominent (all of our linens for example) with gold as our accent).

I've always wanted a December wedding because of the colors and the types of flowers that can be used. My fiancé likes to say our vibe is Gothic Christmas meets Art Deco New Years Eve.

Love it! I think TLC aired an episode of Four Weddings where one of the brides had a SUPER Halloween-y wedding! It looked really cool, but not something I could pull off lol.

That's going to be so pretty!! My birthday, FH's birthday, Christmas, and NYE all fall within a month of each other, so I think adding another big day to the mix contributed to winter getting vetoed early on, but I love a good winter wedding!

We're getting married NYE of this year (was originally going to be NYE of last year). I'd say we're kinda leaning into it- our colors are green, white, and champagne, and we're going to do a countdown for east coast new years at nine pm (wedding is on the west coast) but it's far from being a themed wedding if that makes sense!

We are getting married 2 days before halloween and we are leaning into FALL and leave and pumpkins and having a trick or treat table for dessert. Out colors are deep teal, corally orange, marigold, purple, and black. We both love halloween but we didn't want it to become a joke or SPOOKY so we went super fall vibes with some halloween accents.
