Hello guys! I was wondering, How do wedding websites work? Would it be a good idea to create a wedding website to forgo sending out invites?

You can do either or with invites. I did both invites and wedding website because I had a mix of older folks who don't use tech like that. So I just sent them paper invites and had everyone else use the website

The wedding website is usually not in lieu of an invitation, but rather, it supplements the invitation. It provides additional information that can't fit (or shouldn't go) on your invitation. It usually includes more details such as the full menu, local hotels/hotel block, and where you are registered. It can also include information about your wedding party and a little info about the two of you and how you met.

ETA to add that you can also have your guests RSVP on your website. You can choose to have this be the only method of how they RSVP or in addition to mailing back paper RSVPs (that's what we did).

I agree that wedding websites are great to have. In my case I’m not forgoing invites I’m doing evicted as I’m having a destination wedding with senior people. My group is pretty tech savvy and I’m putting wedding website on invitation. On website they will have message of how we met, introductions to the bridal party can book direct through hotel, get my discounted airline rate, leave us some encouraging words etc.

Hey Jorden! Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the WeddingWire community!!

Typically, wedding websites are used to provide guests with additional information that was not included in the invitation. Such info includes directions to your venue, perhaps the itinerary of your day, information about hotel blocks or locations for out of town guests to stay.

I find that it is a good idea to send out physical invitations also, in case some older guests are not as tech savvy as you had thought! The physical invitation is also a great way to bring your website to your guest's attention. You can include your websites URL and encourage your guests to check it out.
