Wedding website. Written in 3rd person?

Katrina, on August 26, 2016 at 9:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I'm working on the website, ordered STDs and it's listed on there so I figure I should get it finished. My question is, my intro/about us is written as though he or I wrote it, but my Wedding party page is written in 3rd person. Is that weird? Should I change the intro?

You can make a website for your wedding. You can't do it from the app though.

Go to the knot. It's a great way for people coming to the wedding to see information about the wedding like when it is, where people can stay, where you are registered, etc.

I was unsure of this also and I did some research and most suggest doing the whole thing in third person.

@Jaslyn, people make wedding websites to give guests information like hotels, guest shuttle service, registries, etc. It also helps cut down on the amount of inserts you need with your invites. I put on my reception insert to please see www.blahblah.com for more info,

3rd person feels weird, but if you think about it from the perspective of guests reading it, it makes sense. Unless you start out saying that it's you Katrina writing it

So you're writing his version from his POV and your story from your POV and the wedding page is in 3rd person POV? If it was a story switching point of view can be confusing to your readers but for the website it's ok. My advice: keep the 2 side stories short and to the point. I've seen one drone on and on that tried to be cute and funny but was painful to read.

Read it out loud when you're finished to fix verb tense but other than that guests don't expect huge epic stories--just ceremony & reception when, where, some pics and possibly a registry. Done

ETA both Wedding wire and the knot have templates to make your wedding website @ Jaslyn.

For the "how we met" and "proposal" we each did a "his side/her side" thing. For bridal party I just said

MOH: Sam Jones (friend of the bride)

BMs: Sarah (friend of the bride), Ali (sister in law), Janet (sister in law)

    And no details.

If you do write about the people I would used third person because You are speaking for those people.

However I didn't want a lot of personal details out there out of respect for friends privacy.

We did ours in the third person. Even though FH and I both worked on it, I didn't want it to seem like only one of us had written any part. Our website has a "stories" section so he did some and I did a few as well but ultimately wrote them as though someone else was writing. My mom has read it and says it reads a bit weird but I think it's ok.

Thanks ladies, I made the intro third person and I think it's good now.

Wedding websites are also hit and miss. You may get people looking at it, you may not. I had maybe 10 views on the one I did.

I have a question about websites and don't want to start a new thread: so the website goes on the STD or the invite? And, which ever it goes on, can I put my number and email for those who don't do websites so they can get additional information like hotel blocking?

I wrote it from my perspective using "I." And in the intro I wrote "(FFW's POV)."

But I actually think its cute when there's a short blurb from the B&G each. I've seen that twice. When they talk about the proposal and there's the bride's story and then the groom's story. So cute to see how they were thinking.
