Wedding Website "our Story" Help

Jackie, on September 15, 2020 at 12:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

I;m looking for help to write a " our story" the way we met is kinda weird.

She basically lived in the same area/ same school that I had gone to but I had moved around my childhood. But we soon came to know my grandparents and parents knew her parents . but we had crossed paths a few times in our teen lives , one Halloween night we crossed paths for a few minutes (the day before my wedding with my ex), mutual friends and hanging out at a skating rink but never more then that. ..I was married for 2 years prior and she was in a relationship. i was 19 and she was 21. We were hanging out because her and my now ex were going to school together. i would tag along to help them study. We instantly became best friends. We were inseparable. We hung out almost every single day. we found that we had feelings for each other. Things were rough with both of the relationships we were in which came to an end and divorce. Then a few months later we officially announced we started dating .

i dont think there is a way of making a nice " our story" for our guest lol ...

Then don't put a story on your page.

I agree, you don’t have to put a story. If you want to put something, I would keep it really simple and basic. Something like: After crossing paths a few times in our teens, we reconnected and became best friends. That bond grew, and helped us both through a tough time in our lives. Now we look forward to sharing the rest of our lives together.

Most people I know don’t have a cute “this is how we met” story, don’t stress it. My husband’s best friend met his husband on Grindr, not exactly the story they shared with their families; and my cousin met her fiancé while they were both dating other people 🤷‍♀️.

So I don’t think you have to skip this. I think you just have to step back and think about the positive, romantic moments. Don’t dig up all the controversial bits. Is there a first date story? Or a certain memorable date when you knew this was the person you wanted to marry? A proposal story you want to share? Focus on the good rather than the drama and you might see you do have one of those cute stories to tell. If you’re still at a loss for words you can totally skip it and repurpose that section.

Your story isn't just about the day you met, you can include things that you've done together since you've been dating. I added things like our favorite vacations, restaurants, and some relationship milestones to ours.

I think you can pretty much just leave out the parts with the other people. This is mostly just cut and pasted from what you wrote, so you'll need to edit it if you want to use it:

Jackie and [fiancée] grew up near each other, but didn't know each other well. As they got older, they each made friends with some of the same people, so they would occasionally see each other when they spent time with their mutual friends. They started hanging out more often when Jackie was helping fiancée and a classmate study for [class], and the two of them quickly became best friends. As they supported each other through some difficult times in their lives, they realized that they had feelings for each other. They officially announced their relationship in [month/year] and got engaged [amount of time] later. They are [adjective] to be getting married on [wedding date].
