Wedding Website isn't working. HELP!!

Aviana, on April 7, 2014 at 9:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

All of a sudden our wedding website cannot be viewed in Internet Explorer. I can see it in Chrome but not IE. My mom emailed saying it wouldn't work and so I tried and she is right....I just see the background.

Is anyone else having this problem??

    Hi Aviana,

Our wedding websites will work on Internet Explorer, however (like with any other browser) if the version of Internet Explorer you're using is outdated, the page will not load correctly.

I've tested your website in IE-- please see the attached image with the results.

In addition to updating IE, I'd also recommend clearing your cache and browsing history. To do so, please click here:

If you continue to experience issues with your website after updating IE and clearing your cache, please let me know!

I am on IE 9 at work which is completely up to date but I am leery of clearing the history here.

I will try on my home computer later....I think it is probably a cache issue for me but at least I can check everything through Chrome.

Thank you for checking this for me. At least I know it can be seen!!

    Hi there,

Part of the issue could also be that IE 9 is actually 2 versions behind the newest version of IE. To download IE 11, please click the URL below and then the 'Get Internet Explorer 11' button:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/download-ie

Please let me know if updating your browser still leaves you in a predicament with your websites!

Since IE 9 is probably the MOST commonly used browser it's really annoying that WW just decided overnight they don't support it anymore and no one can access their website. So much for my guests RSVPing online... I guess I'm going to have to create a whole new website with a different company now so that my guests can actually ACCESS my site. Unless everyone you know has Windows 8 or a Mac this website has become pretty much useless.

    Hi Sarah,

As I mentioned above, IE9 is not the latest version of Internet Explorer. Most computers will prompt its users to update the software on their computers but if these automatic updates are turned off you may have to update your browser manually.

We test our website on the latest versions of browsers and the most popular browsers. You'll see by clicking the link below that browser popularity is as follows:

    1. Chrome

    2. Mozilla Firefox

    3. Internet Explorer

    http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

I hope this helps answer some of your questions regarding IE as well as other available browsers!

I agree with Sara. Its hard enough to get my guests to visit my website, now I need to tell them to upgrade their IE? This is very frustrating. I dont remember WW warning me of this issue while creating my wedding website. Did I miss this warning somewhere along the process?? If I would have know I would have gone with a different company.

Several years ago, a large portion of the internet (like, including Google!) went to a policy of only supporting the two latest versions of any given browser, in part because it seems like Microsoft only recently learned how to make a web browser that's capable of displaying pages correctly*. So, uh, if you're STILL using IE9, you're not even guaranteed to have Google work on that old piece of junk.

    * I started doing web development around 1998. IE has always been behind the curve on displaying web pages, and for over a decade just plain displayed things wrong (ie, there are standards for how certain code should be interpreted and displayed to visitors, and Microsoft just went and did their own thing).

I understand that IE9 may not be the best, but knowing that this would be an issue upfront would have been nice to be notified of. As the others have said, I would have used a different company, like The Knot, who doesn't have this issue. I know the fix is as simple as updating the IE browser or downloading another browser like Chrome, which I personally use, but it is NOT that simple trying to communicate that to all of your wedding guests...and then trying to explain to the older generation guests on how to even do this. Very very disappointing.

I agree with Lindsey. Mine is not working on IE either. I know for a fact that much of my family will not have an updated browser. I need people to RSVP through my website, which they now won't be able to do. It worked on an old version up until very very recently. I can't exactly change the address on my invitations, or include instructions on my invitations.

That's exactly what I'm going through Lindsey and DisneyEngagement! Invitations are all distributed, which directed all my guests to the website for all the details, itinerary, and RSVP. Am I suppose to send out an amended invitations to all my guests? Then that will defeat the purpose of trying to keep the cost down.

I am having the same problem and am not sure what to do either except switch to a different website. All the hardwork that was put into this website and we have already sent out our save the dates makes this very hard to do. I would think wedding wire would need to change this.
