Wedding Venues - off the beaten path (PITTSBURGH Parks/Barns)

JEN, on January 23, 2015 at 5:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hi! Has anyone ever used ANY of the following venues? So hard to find any kind of information on them, and you can only reserve a year in advance, which makes me super nervous. We are looking for a venue that is totally DIY, outdoor elements, pick your own caterer, BYOB, etc. so that is how we narrowed it down.

- Chapel Shelter Riverview Park

- Schenley Park Cafe

- Richland Township Community Barn

- Rose Barn

These aren't region or city specific forums, so I'd suggest phone & google.

@moonride I actually was considering it, wasn't sure how close hotels were to that venue though!! How close is the nearest hotel?

I know someone who used Schenley Park Cafe and hated it the owner made them shut down early and the bridal party had to sit outside and wait for the limo to show up.

Im using Camp Lutherlyn it in Butler Pa im not sure if you want to go that far up north but it is BYOB they have their own cater but its really reasonably priced compared to other places they have outside and inside locations and plenty of places there for photos! so far they have been really great with everything. for the 2 locations we are using on site it will be around $900 and then i think our food is going to be around $18/person but the chef really works with you on price and what you want to offer

@Jen I am having my wedding @ The 1805 Harmonist Barn in Harmony, PA. The nearest hotels are in Cranberry, which is 10 miles away (about a 15 minute drive). The only downside to this venue is there is no running water so you have to notify your caterer (they will need water for chafing dishes and possibly for some food prep), and you either have to rent hand washing stations or a toilet trailer. We elected to rent a nice toilet trailer with heat/AC/ running water, & flushable toilets. The cheapest one I could find was $795 incl tax. This venue is becoming more and more popular because of the low cost, so I suggest you book at least a year in advance. We booked in December of 2014 for our October 2015 wedding and we got the LAST weekend available. And we actually missed out on renting the meeting house (a little church on an adjacent property), so I'm kind of bummed about that. If you have any questions let me know!
