Wedding venue stay and pay request

X Marks, on January 29, 2023 at 1:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I am looking to rent a mansion and would like some of the wedding guests to stay but I would need to request for them to pay for the weekend stay. How would I word that and should I send a separate request to stay at the wedding venue?

You cannot request your guests to pay to stay at your choice of location. You can extend the offer and give them the information/cost of staying there, but that’s pretty much all you can do. After that, it is up to them whether they wish to stay at the location, or find alternative accommodations of their choosing. You could provide the information through a details card sent with the save the date, and you can also put the information on your wedding website.

Can you elaborate a little more on the request to stay? From what you're saying, I'm not 100% sure of the reasoning behind requesting people stay at the mansion with you?

An FYI if you are considering an Airbnb, they have a 16 person maximum due to people throwing massive ragers.

You can't request people to pay up front to stay at the venue. Is this because you need the money for a deposit? Why do you need the payment in advance? The guests should not feel obligated to stay at the property.

There is no polite way to do this. As hosts, you either cover all costs or let guests pay for actual hotel rooms.
