Wedding Venue Disaster (please Help!!!)

Alexandra, on September 10, 2019 at 8:43 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 19

Hi All! Please help! I am working on locating an affordable venue for my sister in the New England area. I have contacted many many venues in the past few days and they are either way outside of the wedding budget (under 10k) or they are booked for her ideal date 10/10/2020. We would like to keep it in the south shore area but are willing to travel anywhere in a 2 hours driving distance. I have checked New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut but I am seriously struggling and feel that the longer I take to find a venue the more places will book up for her date due to it being a holiday weekend.

She is looking for someplace with an outdoor ceremony location and a reasonable reception hall. This is a relatively small wedding at 75 people maximum. It will probably be closer to 60 people. Originally we looked into hosting it in a field and renting everything needed but the cost of tent, tables, chairs, bartender, catering, bathrooms, and electricity just seemed to be too much however if you have done the "backyard style" or know of something similar to this please let me know! Rustic is the goal so barns and fields and parks are great options we just need a place that allows alcohol and music later in the evening.

Seriously any and all comments will help. Sorry for the long-winded post this is my first time using the site as a poster, although I have been all over looking it for venues!!

Unfortunately, I think finding something that is rustic within that price range is going to be rather difficult because rustic is the in style for weddings. Someone I know just had a rustic wedding and they spent $8,000 on just the venue.

Oh no! That's what I was fearing. Thank you for your reply, I have found some venues that are in the price range but they are booked up by now over a year in advance. She may just have to switch the date so the venues in her price range are available.

That is going to be a hard date to lock in. That’s is my wedding date and we booked our venue back in May. Good luck!

Https://www.mayflowervenues.com/wedding-venues This too. Have you thought about Vermont? It seems cheaper than the other states you looked at.

Her best bet is to be flexible with the date. Since she has such a limited budget, she's got to compromise somewhere. The date is probably easier to compromise on versus the general location/budget/vision.

My original date was 10/10/20 but the venue I loved was already booked up. I ended up changing my date because I didn't want to give up my venue. Sometimes you have to be flexible and willing change your original plans.

You could try Jones River in Kingston - I’ve been to two weddings there! I think it’s budget friendly. Congratulations to your sister and best of luck!

I’m getting married at the Exeter Inn in Exeter, NH next year. It probably doesn’t fit rustic, but it’s affordable and they handle all the food right there. So there’s a convenience factor too.

    Best of luck!

You're welcome! I will say her budget is rather low for most weddings so that is also going to be a challenge especially because she was what's in right now. If she doesn't want to change the date, she might have to compromise and go with something that isn't rustic. Guest count is also important. As well as if she will be serving alcohol. I know most people serve alcohol at weddings, but that is a huge cost. Having a dry wedding would help save money too.

As someone who is originally from Connecticut, I can tell you that New England is extremely expensive. It’s going to be difficult to find a venue that won’t eat up her entire $10000 budget plus some. My advice would be to use family/friend connections and see if you can get any discounts. All things in wedding planning are negotiable as well, so use that to your advantage (military, police, AAA discounts, etc. anything you can think of). We’ve also brought our kids to every wedding appointment, and their cute little faces scored us some discounts as well, lol. Honestly tho, don’t be afraid to negotiate. The worst anyone can tell you is no, and it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Hi there! We just got married in our backyard and I did a break down post of everything. Check out my post in my profile. It was a ton of work so you will need all hands on deck and organization skills but it turned out amazing. With a budget of 10k in MD, I was able to get the tent rentals, bathroom, and food. The extra 8-9k was the DJ, photographer, videographer, etc. I would check out Air B&B or VRBO for some houses you could possibly rent if you can't find a venue. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I am seriously considering requiring that she moves her date if she wants my help, I don't want to hurt her feelings because I know wedding planning is stressful but this date doesn't really have any significance to them so I don't see why they can't choose another!

I wish her back yard was big enough or we knew someone with enough land! I did check air bnb but unfortunately wasn't able to find any within the area that were willing to allow a wedding on the property. I will check out your post though and also VRBO

We did Stonewall Farm in Keene NH. Definitely fits the rustic feel. $4750 for venue only but Sundays are less expensive..
