Wedding Veil

Danielle, on April 12, 2020 at 2:56 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I am looking for some advice on wedding veils and what what’s best as far as length and width. I’m supposed to get married in October and with everything going on I didn’t really get to try to many veils on with my dress because this was back in December and I figured I would be back for a fitting before the end of spring or summer. I have my dress at my moms, it was shipped there and I would like to go with a cathedral size veil that wraps around me a little. I’m 5”2 and im not exactly sure the width of venues aisle but it seems like at least 4-5 feet or more. I’m only looking to spend the most around 30-40$ on my veil because I have a chapel train so if I’m going dramatic then it would only be for the ceremony. I would like most of it to be sheer and a 2T veil. My dress has scalped lace edging or whatever it is and has a lot of detail on the dress so I’m looking for it to kinda wrap around and flow along near my shoulders and I don’t want it to be way too long and look redic because I’m so short but I really don’t know much about this stuff. I am gonna post some pics of my dress and if anyone has any advice on what length and width may work best with my dress? I still have to have to it altered but at least for now I can figure out what veil I want and hopefully see if it works well so when I have hair trails or anything I’ll have whatever veil I will be using. I know cathedral can be between 108 inches and higher. I assume 108” would probably work best with a 3 meter width but I’m not sure! Just that I want it to have similar lace edges all around so when it flows over my train it matches and enhances the dress. The dress color is also vintage rose so idk if ivory would look fine or not? Wedding Veil 1

With vintage rose I’d go with ivory ... champagne may look a little too yellow/golden against the slightly pink shade. Or you may be able to find one in the same shade or have it dyed. It try Etsy I found my veil for a really good price.

Since I wanna go cathedral length do you think I should stay around 108 inches since my train on the dress is chapel length? And should I do like 3-3 meters wide? I’ve seen some as long as like 120 inches and I feel like that may be too long but I don’t know much about the sizing and I was thinking ivory too!

If you have your dress you should measure from were on your head you plan on placing the veil and the end of your train so you can see exactly how long you need it to be. I think if your going for dramatic/statement your veil should be at least 1-2 feet longer than your train to properly show the detail.

I was able to measure the dress at my moms and the train length on the dress is about 6-7 feet long so I probably need around 8-9 foot veil in length. So somewhere around 108-118 inches long and as far as the width I’m thinking 3 meters wide? Or would 2-2.5 meters wide be better?Wedding Veil 7

I think 2- 2.5 meters would be perfect

When I was veil shopping, I learned that the width of the veil determines the poofiness of it. 108" is pretty much the standard (if I remember right.) Going wider than that will make it much more poofy up at the top and around your head ( a la the 80's.)

Also the material is important. If you want it to be less poofy, a material like English Net will be more "drapy" rather than poofy. Most veils are bridal illusion tulle.

You can find all kinds of sellers on Etsy who will customize widths and materials. They are also usually pretty affordable.

Have fun and I'm sure you'll find a great veil. Your dress is beautiful.

Well my sister said I will probably need about 7 inches hemed off the dress for it to just kinda cover my shoes ( I’m only 5 foot 1) but the train doesn’t get altered but my sister said they can always take the train in a little if I went with about 118 inches and feel it isn’t long enough which would then make the length long enough and yes I’m looking for that poofy but drappy effect so that’s way it doesn’t really fall into the dress but goes around so that way people can still see the details during the ceremony and pictures. When I tried it on in December I expected to be able to go back by spring and maybe try some longer veils with my dress since they had done one that was elbow length. I don’t plan on keeping it on for the reception so since I’m going for that bold statement then might as well go big. I will try Etsy! I’ve looked at a lot of sites that are trusted like jjs house and amazon and I’m having trouble finding around 118” with a wider width that isn’t gonna cost me like 100$. Im attempting to do some kinda scalloped lace edge like my dress has but just around the edges since a lot of my dress has that kinda lace all over and thank you on the comments about the dress!

That what I was thinking when I was judging by my height and how wide that would be going around and 3M width seems too long like it may not flow properly down the aisle because it would be too wide. 🤦‍♀️ Some wedding planning isn’t fun!!!

It really isn’t. I was crunching some numbers yesterday and I realized I didn’t get enough of some things because My FMIL added about 18 guests last week that she forgot so now I have to add two tables which means more candles, more flowers and more $ 😩.

Yes!!! There’s always something extra that pops up or gets added and then you have to readjust everything!!! There’s definitely a reason bridezilla is a real thing 😂😳

I almost bought that dress in ivory xD I might have if they'd had that one in stock in my size for a sample when I went back instead of the pink. I think the pink would look fine with an ivory veil. There is a lot of lace on the dress, so I would say either a plain veil or one with similar lace.

I was thinking of doing maybe a sheer 108-118” and about 2/2.5 in width since I have the thingy under the dress sowen in to make it more poofy snd rounded so it has to Be wide enough and it’s hard finding veils that are the length and width I’m looking for with lace edging unless I wanna pay a ton and I don’t want it to be too short or anything because the train is really long and beautiful so I was thinking I may have to give I and get like some kinda different edging then lace if I wanna find the size I’m looking for cheap because lace ultimately costs more regardless and I don’t wanna take away from the train or dress at all but I still want that cathedral effect for the 30 minute ceremony and some pics!!!
