Wedding Timeline - is this okay?

Emily, on December 28, 2019 at 1:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
Hey ladies -

Trying to set our wedding timeline and this has honestly been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do for the wedding, lol. I can’t seem to decide if I want to have the ceremony at 3pm or 4pm. We have the venue all day until 11pm and sunset is at 7:30pm. How long is too long? Here’s what I keep thinking?

4pm - arrival time listed on invitations4:15pm - start ceremony 4:30pm- ceremony concludes 4:30pm-5:30pm - cocktail hour/wedding pics5:30pm- dinner starts 6pm - toasts 6:15pm - first dance/mother/son dance6:30pm - desserts and floor is open for dancing 11pm - everyone leaves

4.5 hours too long for the dancing part? We have games and such for every one to play.
Should I start it at 5pm instead?

5.5 hours is a very long reception. I would start later or end earlier. It’s also not likely that dinner is served the moment the reception begins. If you’re doing any kind of entrances, that will take a few minutes.

Just remember that while it might not make a difference with the venue, you'll have to pay for additional time for the DJ, bartenders, more alcohol, etc. It all adds up for sure. I think the later ceremony is probably more favorable.

I would go for the later ceremony, especially if you plan on an exit. You really want a good crowd for an exit
