How much do you buy into this wedding superstition ?

This wedding superstition is very well known and has been around for a long time, but more and more couples are choosing to skip it. Historically this stemmed from arranged marriages, when the couple may not even have met before their wedding day. Now, it's said to be "bad luck" if the couple see each other before the ceremony. But by opting to skip this some couples get to enjoy getting ready together, doing a nerve-calming first look, and/or taking photos before the ceremony so they can enjoy their cocktail hour with their guests.

Will you see your future spouse before the wedding, or do you think it's bad luck?

We are staying together the night before as we live together but will depart to get ready and he doesn't want to see me in my dress until I'm standing next to him for the ceremony.

I hate this and how it has stuck around. The idea that I could take pictures with fresh done hair and make up and the dress still beautifully pressed is calming to me. I want to have fun and not feel rushed to get things done quickly.

Sister's wedding we ran out of time for pictures afterwards and this there are no formal pictures of the bride and amids all together and it bums me out 2 years later that my sister doesn't have that and all cause they didn't do a first look cause MIL didn't like the idea.

I don't buy into the hiding before ceremony tradition because it's leftover from Biblical times when a woman was transferred as property and if the groom (where the Jewish tradition originated..the Jacob and Rachel story) lifted the veil which was not see through and didn't like the choice of bride given to him, the wedding would could be called off. That has no place in today's world. But it has absolutely nothing to do with superstition either.

That said, I intend to see each other before the ceremony, since we get pictures out of the way and nerves in check..plus recently married friends highly recommend it.

We're doing a first look! Mainly because we want to get as many pictures done as possible before the ceremony, so that afterwards we can spend more time hanging out and celebrating! A first look will also calm my nerves.
