Wedding Signage… where to even begin

Aubrey, on December 6, 2022 at 1:19 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9
There seems to be so many options for wedding signage as far as style, the types, and amount people have at their wedding. I don’t even know where to begin. What is everyone else doing? How many signs are you having? Are you DIYing or purchasing from somewhere?

We had minimal signs at our wedding. We had a photo guest book sign, a hashtag sign, a sign for our flower girl to carry down the aisle, and a sign for our ring bearer to carry down the aisle. We purchased all of these from Etsy.

If you decide to do signs, I recommend choosing ones that don't include your names/personalization on them unless you plan to keep them after your wedding. Generic signs can be sold after your wedding for someone else to use at their wedding, and you'll be able to make some of your money back from them.

This is going to depend on your budget and a couple things:

Is yours the only wedding taking place at your venue(s) that day? If so, you don’t technically need a welcome sign. Are you having an unplugged ceremony and want to remind guests to put away phones and cameras? Are you doing seated plate dinner or buffet? If doing a buffet, you technically don’t need signage for the food. Are you having signature cocktails/drinks you need to let guests know about at the bar?Are you having a guest book/alternative? If so, instructions to guests on a sign will help.

We got some things off Etsy and other things we wanted our stationer to do so that it looked decent.

We didn't do "signs" in the traditional sense. We ordered frames off of Amazon, and then I designed images on Canva, printed them, and then put them in the frames to serve as signs. We had one for the photo sharing app and our hashtag that sat on the guest table, another that had the table layout that we sat on the table with our escort cards, and we had 2 bar signs that had our signature drinks on them. We did the same thing but with smaller frames for our table names.

It wasn't really necessary for us to do a "welcome" sign since it was pretty obvious that we were getting married in a church, so once you pulled in you knew where you were, and we had a shuttle take guests right to the reception where the venue had its own sign. We had programs, so that served as our "welcome" and to tell guests to turn off their phones.

Good points! We are the only wedding so it makes sense we don’t need really need a welcome sign. I feel a lot of is overkill- we probably don’t need a ton but they do look nice!

My decorator/florist created our signs for favors, the candy bar, escort cards and gift & card tables. Our welcome sign and large hashtag sign I had purchased the template from Etsy then had printed by Vistaprint.

A fun idea I have seen on Pinterest is finding a really nice mirror at a thrift shop or something and writing on it in paint marker. Pros of this include it being fairly easy to buy stuff, you could use the mirror again in your home, and you can wipe off the writing after the event. It would make a really fun welcome sign

I just had a sign on the gifts table that said “gifts” just so people knew where to set those down if they brought something. Otherwise, we had no signage except for the menus, which were printed by the venue.
