Wedding Shower vs. Bridal Shower

Gershelda, on May 15, 2009 at 9:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I'm a little confused. What is the difference between a wedding shower and a bridal shower? I know I should know this, but honestly, I've not ever had either one of them. Also, who plans these events? What happens? And, (boy I sound crazy), and what are mine and FH role in each of these events? My daughter is my MOH and she is as clueless as I am. Sorry if I sound a bit dumb, but I was just wondering. Thanks for your help.

Well I'm guessing they are the same thing. I've never heard it called a wedding shower personally, but I've never heard of a wedding shower. So I'm just figuring it is the same exact thing. As for who plans the events - it is usually your bridesmaids, MOH and the mothers. I've been to many and I've never heard of a bride planning her own. I've heard of brides knowing when it was, but they didn't do the planning (or at least they shouldn't have to). It is just a time for all the females that you are inviting to your wedding to get together and honor you. Mostly they will bring gifts from your registry you would open. However I have heard of ones where there was no gift, just a female get together. Keep in mind ONLY people you plan on inviting to your wedding should be invited to the shower. I think most people would assume that by getting a shower invite, they'll get a wedding invite. I personally would be insulted if I were invited to the shower and not the wedding.

And by insulted, let me just clarify that by saying a home shower that is planned off your guest list. I realize that many companies will through a shower for a co-worker and by no means if I attended that would I expect a wedding invite. I think that is just something companies will do for co-workers knowing they won't be at the wedding.

My assumption is that a bridal shower would be restricted to your female friends and a wedding shower can be a little more modern and can include your male friends as well. We have a bit of a different situation were we can not invite many of our friends due to limitations however I have about 100 friends (male and female) where I used to live who want to celebrate our upcoming nuptials, in this case the next time I go to visit my friends they are throwing us a wedding shower even though they all know that they will not be attending the wedding unless family cancels on us. In addition to that they all know that there is a order in which they will be called up in cases of cancellations. They all have their fingers crossed that they will get the call to come to the wedding. Lol.

I was wondering the same thing when my BM asked is it a wedding shower or bridal shower? And I actually said umm I have no clue lol. I think it is all the same a bridal shower I think is giving more by the MOH and BM and from her description it was one where the gifts were mor like the sexy gifts rather than practical things. Wedding shower is more from the regisrty but that was just her description! My mom is planning mine because all my BMs live out of town and one is just in her own world all together. You just go and enjoy yourself, get presents and some food. Traditionally I think its a girl thing but now all rules are out and I have heard about men going as well! Hope that helps
