Wedding Send Off Ideas

Molly, on February 11, 2021 at 3:24 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17

Trying to decide when to do the send off. When I first thought of this, my plan was to have it at the end of the night after the reception with sparklers! But considering my photographer/videographer coverage time, I may be pushing it and need to add additional time if I go this route.

I was suggested another option is to stage a send off. Not sure I want to go that route, but then I thought, well maybe I could do a send off after the church ceremony instead.

Thoughts on send off after the church ceremony or after the reception? Are you doing one? If so when and what item did you use?

Ceremony: Day time, with flowers or lavender toss

Reception: Night time, with sparklers

I think doing it after the ceremony would work just fine! You'll be able to have those pictures taken and out of the way so that you don't have to take time away from the reception to do a fake send off! Plus, guests that may want to leave early get a chance to 'send you off' after the ceremony, rather than having to wait longer to do so!

Just make sure that with whatever you decide, that you know what materials your venue allows!

We're thinking of doing our send-off maybe an hour or so before our reception ends! This way we get the pretty sparkler photos in the dark, but we also are able to have our elderly guests participate before they leave for the night!

A send off after the ceremony would work well! I've seen it done with bubbles, and it turned out super cute. You could also do mini beach balls, rose petals, confetti, etc. Like Shelly suggested, make sure you check with your venue first!

I think a church send off would work great in your scenario! I'm personally not a big fan of staged send offs.
We're doing sparklers about 30 mins before the ceremony ends. I'm not too pressed for professional pictures for the send off so I'm fine with my mom taking pictures on her camera. In her head she thinks she's a professional because she has a nice camera 😂

Thanks for the suggestion! Bubbles could be a neat idea as well.

We’re doing sparklers (our first date was Fourth of July weekend and we got sparklers together!) and we’re doing ours about 30 minutes before the end of our reception and figured we would do a “southern goodbye” at the end where we just kind of run around and say goodbye and thank you to everyone that’s still there. This lets our photographer get out of there instead of making them wait until the true end of the night!

I second the ceremony send off!

If you end up trying to stage one some guests don't get the memo and head out anyways, also double check with your venue and photographer if they'll even work with sparkler send offs.

The venues I worked at didn't allow them, and a lot of photographers in my area have now added to their contracts that they won't do sparkler send offs because they're too dangerous.

Alcohol and fireworks don't mix, so as pretty as they can be they're such a risk.

Do what works for you. The majority of weddings I have attended were at one location with a send off at the end of the reception, during late afternoon/early evening when the hasn't gone down completely. Never seen a send off before the reception. I've also seen weddings with no send off at all. Depending on what the church/venue allows, I've seen birdseed (hurts like crap when you get hit with it) and bubbles. The sparklers sound cute for evening.

It's not something that is important to us so for the time being we are skipping it.

So cute, that the sparklers have actual meaning for you guys!

Love the idea of the "southern goodbye" at the end of the night!

Yes, same most weddings I've been to the send off was a the end of the night and the ceremony and reception was at one location.

I've also seen pictures and videos with sends off after the church ceremony and that also looks like it could be an option.

Yah, I would prefer it after the ceremony than the staged send off!
