Wedding renewal

Riley, on October 6, 2021 at 3:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi!

My husband and I are coming up on our five year wedding anniversary and we are wanting to renew our vows next year. My MIL and FIL ruined our actual wedding and we no longer associate with them. They both embarrassed myself and my husband beyond return. My husband always says it was the worst day of his life. He does not even like looking at our wedding photos and refuses to watch our wedding video because it brings back so many bad memories. We both want positive memories when we look back because we love one another very much.
We’ve said since the night of our wedding that we wanted to renew our vows on our 5 year anniversary and have another ceremony and reception to celebrate with friends and family without all the drama.

My mother and MIL basically planned our entire wedding last time and so I have absolutely no idea where to even begin. I’m basically wanting do’s and don”t advice if anyone has any for a wedding renewal. I would really appreciate it! lol
Thanks! R

I just had my vow renewal - but it was due to Covid. I would say that you already have the biggest thing figured out - it's your day!! And it really needs to be on your terms. That said, it's only one day and those difficult memories won't be washed away. But, wow, it was fun! So - figure out your date, if the major people can be there, and where it will be. The big things - date, place, person to help you through your ceremony, photographer, and where the party will be after. Once you have those - then you can get to the fun stuff - like theme and decor and all the things that make this day totally you!

Be sure to have fun with it!!!!!! That is everything!!!! Congratulations!!!!

I bought a book from Barnes & Noble about questions you should ask your vendors, how to word your invitations, etc. They had this huge one and a pocket size. You could try something like that.

Major Do is you do you! You can make this into any kind of event you want.

We started with budget and must haves by prioritizing what was most important (aspects of the day, vendors, etc).
The beautiful thing is you can make this your own and choose traditions and elements that reflect who you are as a couple. Have fun 😊
