I know my wedding is ways away but when did everyone start making/putting together their wedding registry? And when did you officially make it public?!

I have one for BB&B. I signed up for a registry at a bridal show last year. I stated adding stuff to it online over the last couple months. We are planning on going into the store to finish adding things. I am planning on making it public around the time STDs go out (even though none of the registry info is listed on it) just in case anyone reaches out to me for it they will have access to it. I will also periodically be checking on it to make sure nothing gets discontinued.

My wedding is in May and I started my registry a few weeks ago. I don't plan on making it public until the invites go out with my wedding website URL on them.

We started brainstorming and building our registries (BB&B and Amazon) maybe 6 months in advance, but didn't post them anywhere until we sent out invitations - then I made them visible from out website.

My wedding is Sept 2020 and I started my registry last week. I do not think making it advance will hurt - it helps so guests can get an overview and save up .

I'm a strange case but I just finished up the last of our registry a few weeks ago, it's public, and my wedding isn't for another year and some time.
We aren't really advertising it but I like the fact that it's done. That's one thing that won't need to be done at a later date when other tasks are pertinent.
My goal is to get things done asap to minimize future us stress and headaches.

We started our Amazon registry right away, 19 months out. It was public right away. We edited it throughout the year.

You don't need one until invitations (for the wedding or for a shower) go out. And setting one up much before that is an issue. The things available at a store change frequently, so a registry that is several months old is likely to have a lot of things on it that aren't actually available.

We registered for gifts a few months ago and ended up having to change a bunch because things were discontinued. I would maybe start thinking about where you want to register and maybe ideas of what you want but not start building it quite yet.

We had like 3 things we knew we wanted to put on the registry, including the honeymoon fund, but didn't get it together until we were planning to order our invitations. We got it all together and added the website address to the invites so people could easily find our registry as well as the additional information we posted to our website. When we sent our invitations, we set it up to go live.
