Wedding reception size

Cassie, on August 6, 2020 at 6:28 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
My soon to be and I have large family and friends. That said we are trying to figure out how to go about accommodating our loved ones to be part of our reception which will be two weeks after our actual intimate wedding with just parents. We love our friends just as much as our family and the number come down to 150-250 people total. We are trying to figure out how a reception idea to reduce amount of people together. We want a reception but we want to precautious. The idea of a all day affair so half family in early afternoon until 4 and then friends at 6 but I’m not sure which way to go about it or to just let it go. Any suggestions would be great thanks 😊

Have you tried cutting out children to reduce the list?

How many does your venue allow? Every state has regulations that the venue must adhere to.

While some may not care, it is considered very rude to have tiers of guests, whether you invite a group after the first has declined to attend or if you invite family only to dinner and friends/acquaintances to dancing afterward.
Decide who you can't imagine spending the day without. Don't invite parents' coworkers or someone of that nature out of peer pressure or obligation. Same goes for relatives. Only invite those you and your fiance want in attendance.

That doesn't necessarily mean there are no limits. Where I live the gathering ban doesn't currently apply to private residences (although you could be fined for doing something without a permit, and permits aren't available), but it does some places. For example, in Los Angeles, people who have large gatherings can have their water and power shut off, and in Rhode Island, anyone caught at a house party with more than 15 people can be fined $500 each. So really look into the rules in your area.

I think since you're already having this separately from your ceremony, you should just have parties on two separate days. It's less awkward and probably safer than having two parties in a row on one day.
