Wedding Reception Length

Meaghen, on May 23, 2019 at 5:25 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

I'm struggling hard with when to set our wedding time and have time for the reception. We are NOT serving alcohol at our wedding and doing a buffet for 150. The wedding itself will only last about 20ish minutes and I'm wanting to be done at 6 so we can have a send off that isn't sparklers (found a cute idea for sprinkles), but I'm beginning to think that isn't possible.

Currently we are planning on having the ceremony at 2:30, but I feel like that is going to make the reception end after dark and that would ruin the send off idea. HELP!

Typically if you have your ceremony at 2:30, the wedding will end at 7:30 or 8:30. What time does the sunset in your area in February? You could always plan on leaving at 7 or so as the bride & groom for the sendoff.

Can you do it at 2? Ours is at 3, ending at 8 (we're also not serving alcohol). We're planning to leave at 7:45. 7:30 would also work. Shifting everything up an hour, in early October, we'd be out before sundown.

Or have your ceremony start at 1pm, then the reception starting at 1:30 or 2pm. You could easily end it by 6 doing it that way.

I would say without alcohol, you could definitely shorten the reception. I see you are getting married on Leap Day, so it will get dark probably around 5:30? Maybe you could get married around 12:30 or 1:30 and then end around 5:30?

Are you you serving a dinner or lunch? If you made it earlier, you could do a brunch?

We’re doing a dinner buffet and according to google the sunset will set around 5:45. I just hate to make it to early and try to get hair and make up and all done super early. I think I’m gonna just have to do something like sparklers.

To be fair, a lot of the send off pictures are staged and the party continues on after it's over. If that's something you have to do, it's not terribly uncommon.
