Wedding Reception Do-overs

Angelina, on October 25, 2021 at 3:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
Now that our wedding is over - I wondered if anyone else has anything they would do-over or change if they could.

My only one: EAT! I planned my entire wedding around our menu because we love food (specifically breakfast). We had a morning ceremony so we could have a one-of-a-kind brunch wedding reception. We had a breakfast taco bar, omelette station, hash browns, so many breakfast pastries and bagels, a donut wall, fresh fruit, a mimosa bar, hard iced coffee (and beer). The worst part? I barely ate. I had one breakfast taco before we were bombarded by our guests or being pulled away by our photographer or having to stop for the father/daughter dance my dad wanted to have but I didn’t plan on. Before I knew it, the hot food was taken away and a few pastries remained. Everyone keeps telling me how amazing the food was, best food they ever had at a wedding. My response is always “I wouldn’t know!” I wish I had taken time to sit down and enjoy the most expensive part of our day. As soon as our limo arrived, I grabbed a donut to go and ordered room service at our hotel.
What would you do differently if you could? What advice would you give to someone getting married soon?

I'm not married yet, but I talked planning with my recently married photographer Saturday and her biggest thing was plan to have 30 minutes just the two of you to eat before you go to the reception! That way you get to enjoy each other and the food before being pulled away. Definitely keeping this in mind as I begin to puzzle over day-of timeline!

I'm with you! I didn't get to eat either. We sat to eat for a few minutes and then had to go greet our guests at their tables while they were eating and when we came back, our plates were gone. I was kind of sad about it!

I would be more specific about decorating for the reception and how I wanted it to look, because a few things didn't happen that I thought would be fun, but overall, it didn't really matter, honestly. Smiley smile

We felt too busy to eat at our rehearsal dinner so my husband made sure we took 10 minutes to eat at our reception!!

If I got a do-over I'd make sure to get a picture with my aunt of just the two of us!! Make sure to go over your shot lists several times so you don't miss any important pictures! 📷

That was thing I told my husband -- we're eating! We had a sweetheart table, which helped. And we decided to not do the traditional go to every table. Instead we just talked with them when the dance floor opened up.

I would say my wedding reception regret and what I would changed would be to space things out a little more. We had a smaller wedding, around 75 guests, so dinner didn't take that long and people were ready for cake. So we cut that earlier than expected and then went straight into parent dances. So from us being announced to open dance floor, it was only about an hour and a half. I would have probably spread that out just a little so that we would have had people stay a little longer.
