Wedding readings for two people

br963, on January 2, 2016 at 11:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hi all- I did a quick search of the forums but wasn't able to find what I was looking for.

Have any of you considered or had a reading done by two people? Something with multiple shorter verses, or along those lines.

Thanks in advance! And happy new year!!

I've had people use "love" by roy croft, Paul's letter to the Corinthians; here is my pinterest page that has 10 other officiants on it. There are a lot (like 600) readings that are mostly secular, but include some religious ones too.

    Good luck!

We are doing several readings. Before our ceremony starts, a reader will recite "I Am a Christian." We will also have readings done during communion, foot-washing and God's Knot.

@celia thank you! We are planning on having 3 or 4 readers to help include my grandfather and a few other friends that are important to both of us. two of the girls are best friends with each other as well so I was potentially thinking it could be special if they did their reading with each other.

We're having the officiant (FH's BIL) say this prayer:

    Lord God Almighty,

Creator of the heavens and earth.

Thank you for the gift of marriage

For all the joy and love that it brings us.

We thank you for Lori and Matthew.

Thank you that you have brought them together for this special day,

And that you hold them safely in Your hands.

We pray that you would richly bless them as they exchange their vows and their wedding rings,

And from this day forward they would walk hand in hand into everything that you have destined them to be.

We give our hearts and beings to You now in adoration,

And welcome Your Holy Spirit amongst us.

    Amen.

And then his wife (FH's sister) will say this from Colossians 3:12-14:

As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

I like it when people split a reading; for starters, it keeps the overall time down, and most of my venues only give us 20 minutes. It also spotlights relationships between the readers. Especially if you have more than two readers, I generally only have two guest readings.

My current thought (as of this morning) is:

    1) have my grandfather open with a prayer or other biblical reading

    2) have one friend do a biblical reading

    3) have the two girls split another reading

We are also having a friend officiate but do not have to worry about the length of the ceremony from a venue perspective (all in the same space and we have it all day) but I don't want to have it drag on too long for our guests.
