Wedding puns?

Deja, on July 22, 2024 at 8:22 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
My fiancés last name is brown so we decided we want all the guests to wear brown but I cannot for the life of me think of a pun to say the dress code. All I can think of is “in honor of our last name wear brown” or “celebrate us become The Browns by wearing brown” any ideas?

I would suggest not doing this at all. Requesting guests all wear a certain color is considered poor etiquette and overstepping. Simply set the formality of the event and let guests dress themselves accordingly.

What if instead of asking everyone to wear brown in their attire, you give out brown bracelets or sunglasses or something small as a favor that guests could wear at the wedding? I don't recommend asking everyone to wear a specific color. Not everyone owns something brown that they would wear to a wedding, so that'd be an additional expense for guests. And some people have colors they don't like to wear, so they may be uncomfortable with a request to wear that color.

By all means go crazy on decor and wedding themed colors, including wedidng party outfits, to lean into the brown, but it's going to play off a LOT better if people arrive to the joke instead of depending on them for the punch line.

Please get a chocolate fountain. For me. Smiley xd

So regarding the dress code there’s only about 40 guests and I know they all own a form of brown so it’s not a crazy ask of them and they are my closest friends and family and they all already know I’m doing this and LOVE the idea I’m just trying to think of a pun for it

That's great that they all love the idea!

Something about them being brown for a day and you being Brown for a lifetime?

Ah, I would be worried my wedding pictures would look drab and sullen. Not everyone looks good in brown shades. If you're intent on this, try to liven up the rest of your decor color scheme: florals, linens, venue wall, venue carpet, and pick a good photographer with professional lighting and editing.

There are warm browns and cool browns and so you'll have a wide variety vs. say WP in a single shade of mocha. Most likely your guests will dress less formally to meet your criterion as men's brown suits are not typical in business and even khaki is season specific. Although you'll give a directive, be prepared to not be in control because adults do have a right to choose their own clothing. I personally would not buy anything new or wear brown for a special occasion, but your guests may be different. If you want uniformity, you can give everyone a pin or other wearable as guest favor. Sorry, I have no puns for you but wish you luck.

It doesn’t matter what the people who only want you to be happy may be telling you. Your friends and family are not your props and this request would be inappropriate.

That’s wonderful that your friends and family want to support you. However, strictly from an aesthetics perspective, I don’t think you are going to like the way this looks. Your photos are going to be very drab. And, excuse me for being so blunt, I fear the reception will look like a bunch of walking human turds. 🫢

It's your wedding day so I say, go for it! You could include your brown/earth tone hue request on a "attire or details" insert with your wedding invitations. I will be including a similar attire card with our invitations because we're having a formal dress code. This will help the guests who are uncertain about what to wear have clear ideas. Here is an example for you

I think the different shades of brown will look absolutely beautiful. I can see the mixture of copper, gold, terracotta and mocha now Smiley love . I do not have any play on words for you but it's very normal this day in age for people to request a dress code or color scheme to help set the tone for your big day. We're attending a wedding this fall and they requested we all wear Black Formal Attire. I cannot wait to see how wonderful everyone will look!

    Hope this helps and congrats!

Thank you for actually understanding because I feel like almost every single comment here doesn’t understand the concept of different shades of brown like there’s a million of them and instead of trying to understand my thoughts everyone decided just to bash me for it lol but to be honest me and my family were laughing so hard at how people were responding lol thank you so much I do plan on having an attire card but the one you sent is so cute I think I’m gonna use it!!!!!

Not everyone will get your vision and that’s fine, but I think it can definitely be executed beautifully! I’m glad my example was helpful 🫶🏾
