Wedding Planning

I hired my wedding planner last year in august and she is someone I grew up around. Not necessarily friends but we have close ties. Anyways she had experience at a previous wedding venue and said she wanted to help me plan my wedding and that she would do it at a super discounted rate " at most $500" I was like whaaat yea lets do this you had a beautiful wedding!

So far we have met 3 times and each time I paid her $100. The first time was to talk about what my vision was, the second time she came with me to book my venue. Between that time and the last I had found a few vendors and she still had done nothing to help me really plan besides come with me to book the venue. This was over the course of 4 months.

We met a third time and she was stressed that I hadn't found a caterer yet (my wedding is in June). My problem was I couldn't find any within my budget and she hadn't presented me with any vendors either so she said she would look into it for me. She came back to me with caterers that were $500 over budget and didn't have table wear and then stopped looking. I found a caterer the next day that met all my needs and stayed within budget.

Anyways we talked on the phone and I told her I need a bouquet and reasonable florist also I need her to send out my save the dates. A month has gone by and I messaged her to ask if she'd found a florist and she said that "no one has gotten back to me yet". We are going on our second week that she has had my save the dates and still hasn't sent them out. She said she wants to meet again the middle of February but I don't want to pay her anymore because she hasn't really done anything for me except help me sign for a venue.

My wedding is 4 months away.. I'm considering firing her since I have planned my entire wedding and she hasn't come through for me with anything yet.. am I being ridiculous? what should I do..

It sounds like it would be way less stressful, and cheaper, to do it yourself. You pretty much are now. I would let her go..after you get your save the days back (that should have been sent out by now.)

This is why a lot of people warn against using friends/acquaintances as vendors. It sounds like it would be easier to just fire her. With your wedding so close I would skip the save the dates which would save you on mailing. I would start to reach out to florists yourself as well as any other vendors you might need.

Is she a professional wedding planner? Did you have a contract outlining what she would do? At this point I would cut your losses. I hired a full service wedding planner and didn’t have any issues like this.
