Wedding Photos

Alright, so I have a pretty large problem on my hands.

My FH and I are so close to booking a venue for our wedding. The indoor space is lovely and the price is right!

My problem is that this venue has absolutely NO outdoor space! It's on a highway, and there's nowhere to take photos outside or for people to wonder about in gardens or whatnot. The venue is The Elan in Lodi, NJ. I am truly in love with the space, from the lights to the wooden floors. It is perfect for the size of our wedding of around 90-110 people. Plus they have an ice cream bar from Nastos in Newark, which is my FMIL favorite childhood ice cream parlor. It's almost a no brainer!

The wedding will be at the end of October of next year so I am sure the weather will be chilly, but I really wanted to have photos of us taken in an outdoor space, something green not a concrete parking lot.

What advice can any of you give me? I'd love to have input on what to do. My FH loves the venue as well. And since money is a factor, we have to consider everything. I really like another place with a gorgeous outdoor space which has a minimum peoples and is a bit more expensive, counting the fact we have to HIRE decorators and someone to provide dessert. My mother says we will more than likely make the money back, which is fine, but I don't want to go over budget in the first place.

Friends of mine had a similar problem. They had an extended cocktail hour for guests so that the wedding party could drive about 5 mins down the road to take pictures at the local park.

We also have an industrial venue. We will be doing a first look elsewhere in order to get some pictures outside.

Your next option is to leave the venue during cocktail hour (or maybe even before the ceremony) and take photos somewhere else. You just need to allot a bit more time for this.

My sister and her husband had a similar problem. They ended up going to a public park not far from their venue, and taking all of their pictures there, before the ceremony. It worked out really well.

Just did a quick google of the area. It looks like theres a cute little park like 2 minutes from the venue that has a gazebo where you could have photos done. Look into George Warchol Community Park.

Have you considered a first look somewhere else before the ceremony? You can get the entire wedding party together if you want and pick an outdoor spot you're happy with. Going over-budget is every bride's nightmare, but some can justify it in one area if they cut in another. It comes down to what you are comfortable with. Just keep in mind that those pictures are forever.

I love PPs' advice of driving to another location during cocktail hour! This way you can keep the venue you and FH love, while still getting the photos you want
