Wedding Photographer won’t respond

Janet, on January 12, 2022 at 10:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Sorry for the lengthy post! Looking for advice. Having a hard time booking a photographer for our wedding 10/1/2022. We lost our original photographer, whom shot our engagement photos. She moved across the country in 2021 and had a baby so she backed out (we had not signed a contract yet due to being far out from wedding date- but still disappointing since we loved her work and had already discussed wanting her as our wedding photog with her) She backed out 11/1/2021 which sent me into a panic looking for a new photog with less than a year to go!
So i searched the web and was able to find a photographer we liked- so we reached out and by a miracle she said she was available for our date! I felt so relieved! Initially all of her responses were very quick, and she gave very detailed information! We set up to do a phone consultation mid-december to discuss details and move forward with booking if we liked. We chose a date for the call, she emailed me saying she put me in her calendar. Then that day came and went and she never called. I didn’t have her phone number, so i couldn’t call her. Now i was understanding of the fact that it was 10 days before Christmas and i was also busy with life- So I waited until after the holidays passed, and sent a followup email asking to reschedule our phone call and saying we were eager to book.
That was 1/5 and have not heard back since. Its been a week since the follow up email, so i sent another email last night 1/11, checking in to see if she received my email, and asking if she is still available for our wedding date. Nothing. So now its been over a month since we have heard from her, and now i am panicking that I am losing yet another photog with 9 months to go! Its going to be nearly impossible to find a photographer now. And i started reaching out for other photogs and so far everyone is booked Smiley sad Do i DM her on social media? She did post happy new year on NYE.I know we had not signed a contract but we were about to! Do i keep trying to get a hold of her via different platforms? Or start to look for any person who owns a camera? 😩 Sincerely, a very stressed out bride.

I would find a new photographer at this point no need to waste time with waiting on someone to get back to you. So keep trying don’t give up god provides when you least expect it. Keep your head up

I agree with Mandi. I wouldn't keep trying to chase down a vendor who doesn't respond. Better to find this out now before you signed the contract. If she isn't responding now, imagine your stress level when she doesn't send you your engagement photos (or worse, wedding photos) and won't respond, or when you're trying to put together a timeline for your wedding day and need to figure out her timing and she won't respond. I would look at this as a sign to keep looking. You'll find someone! Join a Facebook group for local weddings (search for "[city/area name] weddings" or "[city/area name] brides"). Vendors are often in those groups, and if you put a post listing your budget, wedding date, preferred photo style, and any specific services you're requesting (such as, engagement shoot, second shooter, number of hours, etc), you should get responses from available vendors.

I would look for a new photographer at this point, there has to be someone else available. I had the same situation with the original photographer i wanted to go with, She would take ages to respond and say she was going to get back with us over and over again, just to get a quote and some details. eventually I realized if she doesn't want my business then I should just move on. Maybe try to DM her on social media, and if still no response then i would definitely move on

I would look for a new photographer ASAP. This one is proving she is not professional or reliable- what if she no-shows on your wedding day? Or says she will have your photos done in four weeks, but then actually takes three months? I would consider this a blessing in disguise. Search high and low for any photographer in your area. Ask for suggestions from friends and family. Join local Facebook wedding groups and ask for suggestions there also. Definitely search Instagram!! Instagram is such an underrated tool for finding photographers! It is a one stop shop to viewing their photos, as well as photos that their clients have tagged them in! Try these 3 searches in Instagram: your city + photography, your city + wedding photography, your city + wedding

*Example: say you live in Detroit. You would search #detroitphotography #detroitweddingphotography #detroitwedding

When you search your city + wedding, look for photos and styles that you really love and click on those photos and see who the tagged photographer is.
Another option would be to look for photographers outside your immediate area (a few hours away, a neighboring state, etc.). Most photographers will travel to shoot weddings. Don’t give up! We had to unexpectedly find a new photographer also, and I was absolutely panicking. Turns out, it was a blessing in disguise! I reached out to the photographer that was initially my first choice (who was already booked on our wedding day), and as luck would have it, the couple JUST rescheduled their wedding and he had our date open! What I thought was a complete disaster turned out to be one of the best things to happen!
