Wedding party photos now or next year

Laura, on July 18, 2020 at 5:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
I’m really struggling to re think our entire wedding. Originally planned the whole big traditional wedding, 5 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen. New plan, we are doing a small outdoor ceremony followed but an outdoor dinner with immediate family and wedding party only. Then a year from now we are having our big reception with a band and all that. The bridesmaids already have their dresses the groomsmen will rent and I assume can postpone. Do I have then get all dressed up for the small ceremony and dinner and do wedding party photos this year or should I just have them all hold onto the dresses and postpone the suit rentals and do it all next year for the big reception, but no ceremony? Seems weird to have bridesmaid dresses with no ceremony but also seems weird to have a third of the attendees all dressed up matching for just a ceremony and dinner. I can’t seem to figure out the best solution!

I think which ever you will consider your “wedding day” is the day to have photos.

Thanks, that definitely is in line with our thinking as well. the wedding day is definitely this year so that is what we are leaning toward.

I would just in the off chance you would happen to change your mind and forego a wedding later. With the way things have been changing I would seize every opportunity you have to make it as special as possible.

The bridesmaids bought their dresses, so they can wear them twice. We're having everyone rent their suits for the reception next year. We told them they could wear any suit they already own this year. We decided to save most of the group pictures for next year because everyone will be there, so we can get more combinations of people, and because I don't know how comfortable people will be getting into group pictures this year. I'm also hoping we won't need masks at our bigger reception. If you and your bridal party are comfortable getting close enough to each other to have the pictures you want taken, there's nothing wrong with doing that this year. That also gives you the benefit of being able to display them at your reception.

I do have one bridesmaid (my sister and MOH) that is VERY worried about covid so it might be some odd pictures. that’s true they can wear the dress twice. We are thinking of making the ceremony virtual to all the invited people so that would make it more worth doing it all this year
