Wedding party Hair and Makeup - is it wrong to ask bridesmaids to chip in?

Dana, on January 13, 2021 at 10:02 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16
We don't have this set up but I'm talking to my bridal party about us hiring someone to come on site to do all of our hair and makeup. This way we don't need to worry about getting messed up in transport. The only problem is that these vendors are asking crazy prices. I feel bad but we've had to ask them to chip in to have all that done. Is it wrong to do this?

Unless you are requiring a certain look, bridesmaids pay for their own hair/makeup. You can locate stylists on Yelp, Instagram (search for "yourcitymakeup" or "yourcityhairstylist") or thumbtack.com

If you are requiring that your bridesmaids get their hair/makeup done, then you should cover the cost. If it's optional and they can choose if they want to pay for hair/makeup, then typically they can cover their own costs.

Oh it's entirely optional for them. I have no intention of pushing a look on them lol the only issue is if I don't get at least most of them to agree, then we can't afford it for anyone.

Does the hair/makeup artist have a minimum number of people who need to commit to having hair/makeup done?

We haven't picked a company yet but the cheaper ones I've seen require a minimum payment, usually the equivalent of 4-5 people getting done.

Oh, I see! That makes sense. Also maybe check with your mom and your fiance's mom, they might be interested in getting their hair done for the wedding too, that might also help you reach the minimum count.

Oh yes they're already in. The issue is I only have 3 bridesmaids so that just barely makes the minimum. If any of them opt out, I'm gonna start having to ask guests 😂

Even though I’m great doing my own hair/makeup, I’m hiring someone. I don’t want to feel anymore stressed out on my wedding day, plus I want some pampering! I have a small bridal party (total of 3) & I’ve asked them if they wanted this. I’m not going to push a certain look on them either. Only one says she’s going to do her own. I’m paying for mine & the other 2 (as part of their thank you gift) but they will be taking care of the tip.

Considering your bridal party is purchasing their dresses and shoes traditionally it is the bride‘s responsibility to provide make up and hair. It should be about $75-$100 per person. I’m using gloss from Philadelphia I am paying $500 for myself which is a little bit more expensive than a normal person Because it’s bridal +3 people

I offered to pay for my bridal party's hair and makeup, but they refused lol. I am paying for me, my mom, and my FMIL though.

I gave them the option of whether or not they wanted it done. Since I want their makeup to be natural, as well as their hair, I'm fine with them doing it themselves.

All of them wanted it done by a professional, so between them, me, my mom and FMIL, there's 7 of us. The total number that wanted it done was going to determine which artist I went with since some required at least 4 to do on site makeup, and some required only 3.

Offer as an option. When I was a bridesmaids for one of my best friends wedding, she wanted all of us to get ready at the same place and hired make up/stylists. She provided the staff as an option which I was very grateful because at the time I was a student, not financially secured, and after paying for the dress, shoes, hotel, transportation, and bridal gift, I had already put $800 on my credit card. This is not including the bachelorette weekend in Vegas and contributing to the wedding shower. I opted to do my own hair and make up to avoid adding more debt to my card but we were all in the same location which was nice. Best not to assume people can afford it.

Oh of course! I had mentioned it on someone else's comment but I'm leaving it entirely up to them if they wanna do it or not. But I've also decided recently cause of someone else here I'm gonna pay for one for all of them... I can't afford both for all of them but this way if they want both, they only have to pay for one n if they only want one it's free on me

No no no. You are not asking for too much. I had 4 bridesmaids and each one doing gair and make up. So I figured out the budget and told them I would pay half and it was part of their bridemaids gifts as well.

As long as hair and makeup is 100% optional, you don't have to pay for it. There are also difference customs depending on your social circle. I've been a bridesmaid 8 times and the bride covered all hair + makeup costs every single time. So it was a no brainer for me to cover my bridesmaids' hair and and makeup, even though I wasn't requiring it.

I am hiring people to come to our location to do everyone hair and makeup. I am paying for it since i wanted that option for everyone. I just want everyone to look and feel their best and these pictures are what i am going to have to last the rest of my life so i wanted to offer that service to wedding party.
