Wedding party gifts

Cassie, on June 11, 2019 at 9:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
I’m having trouble deciding on wedding party gifts! I bought them each a leather makeup bag with their name on it, and plan on filling it with little things (chapstick, gift card, perfume, etc) and wanted to pay for their hair and makeup. Which would be $150 per bridesmaid plus tip. Which adds up for three bridesmaids. But the other part of me feels like this isn’t enough of a “gift” as the hair and makeup are for the wedding. But I would assume it would take a big burden off of them. Any ideas/suggestions?

Should I pay for hair and makeup or get them a more personalized gift instead?

A lot of people will say hair and make up is not a gifts since it is to make your pictures look better. I personally love getting my hair and makeup done so I would love it. I do not think the amount of gift matters as much of I thought. Etsy has a ton of stuff.

I'd say that hair and makeup technically isn't a gift, but if you're requiring your girls to have them done, you should be paying for it. Regardless, what you're planning to gift them sounds nice. A lot of people suggest shopping for your wedding party as if it were each person's birthday, so they get more things they like than things that all match. I'd suggest filling the bags with unique items that each girl will appreciate. If you want to give them something more, something like a gift card or a bottle of wine could be a nice addition.

I would love if someone paid for my hair and make up. It’s part of a gift if you chose it to be. I’m having trouble with my bm’s gifts too. I ordered these gift bags off Etsy, super cute and very affordable about $13 per bag? (Then they went on sale for $10 of course the week after I bought it lol whatever) I bought silver flip flops from David’s bridal that say “bridesmaid” so they aren’t barefoot when they kick off their heels dancing because I think that’s tacky for my girls to do that lol so the flip flops will be in the bag too. I plan on buying a rose gold stemless wineglass tumblr with their initial or name on it too (etsy too). I will add a card for each of them with a personal message from me thanking them for being a part of my day. I plan on adding earrings in the bags that they will wear the day of the wedding. I’m not sure if I should add some of my favorite things such as my favorite make up remover, chapstick, lipstick Starbucks gc. Idk I’m a little stuck too lol I thought I was on a role. I’m 100 days away! Smiley smile

Those bags are super cute!!! I’m not requiring my girls to have their hair and makeup done but they all
opted to, so I thought it would be a relief for them to not have to dish out more money. Love the wine idea too! Some wine, chapsticks, gift card, candy, small stuff!

I got my bridesmaids matching Alex & Ani initial bracelets to wear on the big day. For my cousin's wedding where I was a bridesmaid, she got us earrings an a necklace to wear for the wedding day.

I think your ideas are great that you purchased! If I was a bridesmaid, I'd prefer my HAMU be paid for rather than a gift (or at least given the option). That isn't the popular response though so it depends!

I was just in a wedding this weekend! The gift was a very cute make up bag with our names on it, same thing, full of some stuff. It had "Bridesmaid" on it, which I would personally skip and if you look on her at a lot of forums you'll see a lot of people suggesting to skip putting that on anything, but I really like the bag!
I wouldn't pay for hair and make up as a gift or word it at all like that. If you want them to do hair and make up professionally, you pay for it. If they want it they'll do it, if they don't they wont and they'll still look amazing. Paying for it is part of what you agree to if you ask them to do hair and make up, its more of a gift to you.
If you want them done up, pay for it and just give them the bag. If you don't care but thought it'd be a nice gesture to pay for the hair/make up professionally, maybe do something else with the money. Hair and make up can be expensive, you could probably get them something really really nice and personal to them with that kinda dough. But I think a make up bag is gift enough! I would suggest a really nice letter with each of them.
