Has anyone elses wedding been over ran by everyone else then you and your fiance?

I've realized that my wedding is 2 times bigger then what I wanted, and it's what we can afford as well.. but when I talk to my fiances mom she said it's the only wedding shell ever have and she wants her son to have an amazing wedding. (Back story..hes an only child) but.. I always look puzzled at her when she brings up the only wedding.. it's my only wedding too 🤣🤣 she sees it as, I have other sisters so I have multiple celebrations but she only has one? Lol
I told her to cut the list and we only have so much of a budget.. she keeps adding more people to the list and just says "ill cover it" where's the point where I'm just saying no.. or do I just let her pay for the people shes inviting extra and keep my mouth shut.. the original amount was 85people.. its at 143 at the moment..

Yes that happened to me aha. We were at 220 and I was happy about it which meant things would be under budget but then we allowed his parents to have more people so it went to 250. At the end of the day it all worked out fine but definitely stick to your guns

I guess it depends on how much you want to push back on. If she’s going to pay the difference for the people that come and you and your FH are ok with her doing that then maybe just let it go but ask her to stop adding people after a certain date.

It’s more of your fiancé’s job to put his foot down, since it’s his mom, but either way you definitely have to put your foot down. My fmil keeps trying to invite more people and telling us what we do or don’t need. I had to have a discussion with fh about how ‘I understand she’s your mom but I am going to be your wife. This isn’t her wedding or her marriage.’

Same thing happened to me. We wanted 140x max - we invited 211x.
So far, we have received 116x RSVP back, with 82x yes, and 34x nos. out of the remaining 96x I am guessing that 40x will RSVP yes, and the rest will RSVP no.

Does she know how much those extra people are going to cost? For us to add another 25 people, it’s $1,000 more so it wasn’t worth it in the end to us.

She knows how much it costs...she picked the venue. 😳 the 11 people she added again will cost $825
