Wedding on Labor Day Weekend - Bad Idea?

Future Mrs. B, on March 29, 2020 at 7:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
I was planning on having our wedding on September 4th, 2021. However, this is Labor Day weekend. My future mother in law thinks that would be a bad idea, since people may be traveling or having their own parties. But I'm not so sure. Has anyone planned/had their wedding on a holiday weekend? Thoughts? The venue I'm in love with only has that Saturday available around that time of year, but I'm not sure if I should just move the date to another weekend on a Sunday. Let me know what you guys think!

We have friends getting married Labor Day weekend this year. I wouldn't be going if they weren't close.

My fiance and I are planning on getting married Labor Day weekend of next year too. We thought it would be easier for people to come since it's a longer weekend and most businesses are closed that Monday. I don't know many people who celebrate Labor Day but if you have your wedding on that Saturday then they can have their own parties Sunday and Monday.

I was in a wedding last year during Labor Day weekend. It turned out great! One of the good things is that people that are traveling have an extra day to recover before they go back to work! Also that means more time with family that isn’t rushed ☺️

I’m not a big fan of holiday weddings because we’re pretty much always planning on using that vacation time for our own trips or activities and I hate being pressured to cancel those precious moments. But as long as you’re understanding when people RSVP no there’s no need to change the date.

I've been to tons of labor day weddings, and will be going to one this year as well (COVID-19 permitting!) My only suggestion would be to send your save the dates a little earlier than usual so that people can make travel arrangements, because airfare is generally a lot more expensive for holiday weekends. Otherwise, I see no problem!

Every wedding that was on labor day, I have skipped. We have 3 weekends a year that are for camping and boating. Each weekend, a different lake and my kids look forward to each one. My mom canceled her plans to be with us one labor day for a wedding and was sorry she did because the whole thing was 3 hours and the ceremony was at 10am.

Unless you are doing a destination wedding and can give your guests an experience over what they would normally be doing, I'd pick another date. Or you will just have to be ok with a lot of people not coming.

Our wedding is Memorial Day weekend and everyone loved the idea of it being a long weekend. You can always send STDs a little earlier to give people heads up.

I would pick another date. Long weekends are precious. They are usually the last dates remaining at venues because people purposely avoid them. That being said, as long as you are OK with a possible higher levels of declines I say go for it.

Thank you guys for all of your help! Honestly, I think we may move it to a Sunday just because itll be cheaper for the venue overall. And I didn't even think about ticket prices for flights!

I am planning my wedding on labor day weekend this year. I think it's a good idea because people will have a three day weekend, so people traveling wont have to use vacation time. Nobody I know really does anything for labor day except drink and BBQ, which my wedding is a Red, White & I Do BBQ so they can drink and BBQ at my wedding instead of at their house.
