Wedding on a budget

Lauren, on January 11, 2020 at 8:13 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

What are the best ways to save on the ceremony?

I've heard of using the bridesmaid bouquets as centerpieces, mixing real and fake flowers for the large arrangements, using more lights with less flowers, and of course the beautiful DIY projects.

What are y'alls thoughts?

I’m just not having flowers as centerpieces and my bridesmaids are carrying “nosegays” rather than full bouquets. They’re just a bit smaller and still pretty. The ceremony decor will be virtually nonexistent since were getting married right after Christmas in a church, so they already have things decorated! I’d also advise to be on the lookout for things really early, so you can get the best deals on things as they come up. My wedding is still almost a year out but I’ve got pretty much all the decor purchased

Look for a place that is already pretty on its own! We're looking at a place that does the ceremony at the edge of a cliff over a beautiful forest so we're hardly doing any decorations for an alter!
If the venue is pretty well used and there's a wedding before or after yours you could ask to have the other couple call you and work out spitting things you can use for both weddings, like renting chairs or decorations! A friend of mine did this and it helped a ton! Plus you only have to either set up or take down something if the venue allows you to leave it.

Don't be afraid to borrow stuff from people ! That way you don't have to buy it on your own.

Look on FB marketplace for any and all wedding decor. There are a ton of brides who are selling bulk EVERYTHING.

I know this sounds counterintuitive, but maybe look into having an all-in-one venue. Ours does the ceremony, reception, catering, bar, and decoration all in-house, and although there was initially a sticker shock, it worked it to be significantly cheaper than getting everything through different vendors. It's also a lot easier than keeping track of multiple vendors with multiple bills.
My other advice is to check the dollar store for decorations. They have nice looking "silver platters", for example, plus tealights, candlesticks and fake flower petals. Then buy some spray paint at the hardware store to give everything a unified color. It all looks matchy matchy but was super cheap.
